Hi Gents,

Been a while. If anyone with experience can chime in about the problem in the video I would appreciate it. Seems to me like a slip bump issue. Need greasing, replacement or super ball trick? Thanks

sounds kind of normal to me for a nbs, is this something that recently became louder?

Hey Doubeleive,

Should have elaborated. I have had a clunk on acceleration after releasing the gas pedal and then reapplying at highway speed. Coming to almost a complete stop it happens as well. Seems to be amplified under same conditions if I only use third gear. It's been happening since I've had it. I am about to start towing a travel trailer and wanted to button the truck up. Thanks

could be the slip yoke needs to be greased, I would take a look at your universal joints also

If the information is correct ATF fluid is used on 4WD slip yolk? That should also include AWD I would imagine.

This is what my RWD sounded like when the grease was dry while going over speed bumps. You can see the movement in/out by design. Since it's RWD, I greased it up good with Lucas Red & Tacky and hasn't come back in a year. There's a lot of info out there on an updated nickel plated yoke for 4WD.

And more info on 4WD to NOT use grease:

A new grease, part # 19257121 (in Canada, 19257122), was recently released for lubrication of slip yoke splines to repair a condition of a bump feel or clunk noise at stop or from launch on the vehicles equipped with 4L60 Automatic Transmission (RPO M30) and 2WD. Please see Bulletin # 09-04-17-002C for details.

Do not use the new grease for lubrication of slip yoke splines on 4WD vehicles. The output shaft in a 4WD transfer case does not have a grease retainer to keep the grease from migrating into the transfer case and mixing with the fluid inside. The new grease is not compatible with the Automatic Transmission fluid used in the transfer case and can cause damage if mixed. Lubricate the splines on 4WD vehicles with Automatic Transmission Fluid, P/N 88861003 (in Canada, 88861004). Please refer to Bulletin # 09-04-21-003B for repairing the bump feel or clunk noise condition on 4WD vehicles.

Ron's looks pretty normal and Matt's looks like his has a bad motor mount which is/was causing all that movement.

You only use the synthetic grease on the front prop shaft spline or a one piece RWD shaft. For 4WD use whatever fluid the transfer case uses. For the 800s the AWD was Dex III and the 4x4 used Auto-Trak II fluid. Double check your owner's manual.

Years ago I used to tell everyone to use the synthetic grease on 4x4s until someone corrected me. I put out a correction but boy did I post that a lot all over the place and doubt I found them all!
