in a previous post I stated:
"In the owners Under Forward Automatic Braking (page 246). it states: "The system works when driving in a forward gear above 4 km/h (2 mph)."
To me this indicates the Forward Automatic Braking should work regardless if the Adaptive Cruise Control is on or not.
Since I couldn't get a straight answer from the dealer, I wrote a letter to GMC Customer Support. I didn't expect to get an answer there either, but two days ago I had a voice mail from a GMC customer representative.
In her voice mail she said that forward automatic braking should work as long as "Alert/Braking" was ON in the settings and should work if ACC is on or off.
I tried calling her back yesterday but had to leave my own voice mail.
I will try again on Monday. I hope I can get her to send me something in writing that I can take to the dealer.
I think it sucks that the people selling these vehicles don't even know how they are supposed to work.

I'm not sure I'm following. Are you saying your front braking brakes, even at low speeds, without cruise control on?

What year is yours?

No, go back to my earlier post with the video - this was my chief complaint - that the front braking would not work at low speeds for an obstacle, in my case a rubber trash can

Now that Cadillac has said front braking will only work for a vehicle in front - not any obstacle - I do not know if ACC on is a requirement, and this is something that I cannot test ie driving 5mph into parked vehicle

Acc is awful. Wish I could disable it.

I assume my Yukon Denali has Auto braking but I've certainly never had it engage.

I've seen the flashing lights but never waited long enough to see if the vehicle would start braking for me

Now, this may change for 2017 given this video

The window sticker price on my 2016 is $995 for Adaptive Cruise Control.
As far as description, all that's listed are:
  • Adaptive Cruise Control, automatically adjusts speed
  • Collision Avoidance Sensor
You really need to look at the RPO sticker in the glove box. What you'd be looking for would be:
  • UEU - Forward Collision Alert
  • UGN - Automatic Collision Preparation
  • Y66 - Adaptive Cruise Control with Front Automatic Braking

It's very confusing since GMC limits it based on trim

If you want adaptive cruise, you need a SLT (which will front brake only when cruise is on)

If you want complete front braking, you need a Denali

SLE $545 forward collision alert
forces you to add
  • IntelliBeam headlamps
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Enhanced Driver Alert Package

SLT $995 Adaptive Cruise Control with Front Automatic Braking

Denali $1,420 Automatic Collision Preparation inc Intelligent Brake Assist and Collision Avoidance Braking
forces you to add
  • HUD
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Front Automatic Braking

Yes it is confusing.
I have an SLT W/Adaptive Cruise Control and the Forward Automatic Braking ONLY works when ACC is engaged, but nowhere in the manual, or anywhere else I've looked does it state this.
Apparently, at least on my vehicle, the Forward Collision Alert also only works when ACC is engaged.
