I went to change my crankshaft position sensor on my 99 tahoe lt 4x4, but the replacement was far larger in diameter than my oe one. I am kinda scratching my head now as I cannot find one like mine listed anywhere. I have even looked at 98, 99 , 00 tahoes and they all show the same.

Am I going nuts? Am I dealing with the wrong part? The piece I am referring to is right in the front of the motor underneath. Just the total wrong diameter. Everything is the same meaning the bracket, but the oring is blueish and smaller as is the diameter of the part that goes inside.

Anyone had this problem or could offer any solution? I have even been to all the usual sources for parts both online and in person and they all list the wrong one. I am baffled to say the least!

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Here are a couple pics from the motor side. I am baffled to say the least. I cant wrap my head around the fact that there is no info anywhere on this..........Could the brass piece be some kind of insert that needs to come out?

I dont recall any brass insert in mine. The end of the sensor is actually a magnetic pick up and needs to be kind of close to the passing teeth of the reluctor wheel. The correct one is the one with the red o-ring. Lets be clear...you have a 5.7 vortec right? Here is the link to rockauto.com for the correct part. http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...3872,ignition,crankshaft+position+sensor,7196

Thanks for the reply. Yes sir, 5.7 vortec. That is the exact part I have, but it's definitely not going where the old one came from! The old one even has numbers where the magnet? is, but they lead nowhere. They are 10493924 and 9837CY.

I really am beginning to think that brass piece should come out, but I don't really want to have to change the timing chain cover if I don't need to, if ya know what I mean!

Im not sure what to make of that insert. It looks like somebody either repaired the cover and made that sensor work or the cover is some kind of aftermarket version that doesnt use a stock sensor.

Well, I decided to randomly put some vice grips on, and pull! I am an idiot for not trying it sooner, but I didn't like the prospect of pulling the timing chain cover....

Anyway, just on the off chance that this happens to someone else, here are the pics. The brass part does come out!

Thanks to Phone Man for attempting to help!
