wondering what most people use here just for general driving. I have a 2017 Tahoe. And does it make a difference when using a higher octane? Thanks for the input

Read through the BB Tune '17 5.3 thread. Based on the information provided in that thread from someone who is a reliable source, the 5.3 should be running at least 89 octane primarily due to the fact that the 5.3 engine compression is 11.0:1.

For the record, I've been running a better brand of 87 (Shell, Exxon, Mobil) gas since I purchased my truck new. On the next fill up I plan to jump up to 89 to see if it makes a difference.

I do not know if Shell has changed their formula, but I would not use Shell gas. Tons of google hits on Shell making GM fuel sending units go out in the early 2000's.

This is correct, 89 is recommended for the compression, even on a stock tune.

I foolishly use 92 in my stock Denali. Not basing this on anything besides the fact I fill her up one every six weeks so don't mind spending the money.

I use 87 all the time in my truck  I did try 89 for awhile but really didn't see any difference at the pump but who knows internally.
