To go from this... :Plugged:
http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/2f4ecae0.jpg

To this!!!
http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/4e98fc58.jpg

Tools:

Torc 30 and Torc 15 sockets
Needle nose pilars
Long skinny allen wrench

Stick the allen key in a small hole to release the airbag, there is one on each side, its recommended to disconnect the battery before doing any of this but it's not necessary and can be completed fine without it.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/5ca83df0.jpg

The airbag will then release and the mounts will make much more sense once you get a feel for where the clips are with the allen key. At this point disconnect the airbag with the two clips, you can't mess it up they are color coded. Use the needle nose for the airbag wires, but dont press hard.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/581dc3ca.jpg

Remove the four large nuts with the torc 30 bit, they will not come apart from the main bracket.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/0294b577.jpg

Then disconnect this wire.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/70c64572.jpg

Here is what it looks like removed.
Remove the four ground contacts for the horn.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/f2a43258.jpg

Then remove the radio and cruise control controls if you have them. Then reattach them to the new trim pieces.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/eaf76530.jpg

Should look like this.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/dd0d045c.jpg

Reattach the trim pieces.

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l88/normie0268/437a8556.jpg

Reattach the bracket that holds the airbag and wires.

And finally press the airbag back into the clips until they lock, if you didn't disconnect the horn it will go off.

Thanks! I didn't need to unhook the airbag - just set her on top of the column.

I could use a little help on step 1. I've been using a long allen key, as instructed, but can't seem to figure out how to get the front cover and airbag off the steering wheel. Is there a specific item I'm suppose to feel for, or do I need to push or pull a certain way? Is there a trick I don't know about that I should be using? Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't done mine yet but need to- the original covers are peeling (I know, I know- shocking). What was the answer to your question- is the allen key just used to push and release a clip or is there an allen screw in there?

Hey sorry for the SUPER late reply! All the allen key does in step one is release a pressure clip. No turning involved. It's not the easiest task either.

Tell me about it. Just tried it. Felt like 10 minutes of poking around in the dark. Always getting the wrong hole. Not hitting the hole quiet right. Then bam, done.

story of my life...

The question was where exactly in the steering wheel am I pushing? The answer is: The surface right in front of the gap where you can push the pin/allen key several more inches in. ”Front” being closer to you and further from the dash.

One thing to add to this

DO NOT UNPLUG / REMOVE THE AIRBAG WITHOUT DISCONNECTING YOUR BATTERY

I know some have done it and haven't had a problem but if that thing blows up in your face you are going to be a sad MF for the rest of your days on this earth. Airbags blow up on fireman even after an accident when they are trying to remove the trapped victim.

ok i got it out..................note to self anyone looking to do this it not just " stick a allen wrench in the hole and push and it will come out" yes you use a allen wrench stick it in and point it kinda twards the steering wheel away from the dash not like a crazy amout and feel for tabs and play with it and feel around for them when your on the tab you can push it and feel its springy not fucking stick a allen in the hole and push...i called the owner at auto woods the guy who made the video on you tube how to remove the air bag....i hope that helps i messed with mine like 25 times its very easy.........hope that helps some one in need

I was thinking the same thing as I read through this thread and couldn't agree more. Airbags are like a loaded gun w/o a safety. It really could kill you.

I'm not a safety freak - life is not risk free, but no need to be stupid.

As a mechanic I'm always nervous about removing an airbag. Static electricity could set the damn thing off.
