[SOLVED] EVPD NV purge pass test failed

So driving home tonight engine light comes on. I have a new TOPDON OBII scanner i got for Christmas, haven't used it yet. Hooked it to the truck, didn't get a code but got, Purge Flow monitor "EVPD NV purge pass test failed". Any idea what is going here. Engine is 5.3l with 7600okm. Probably also have to learn to use the scanner better. Thank you for your help. More info engine runs smoothly and noticed an occasional wiff of something after faster acceleration.

I would suggest looking in generic OBD in your scanner to see if there is a pending (or other) evap code. Don't select the make-model, etc. when you launch the diagnostics.

You can also look in the vehicle-specific diag section but know that sometimes live data shows calculated or substituted values that can lead you astray.

A failed GM EVAP service bay test (NV Purge Pass) usually indicates a stuck open purge valve, faulty vent solenoid, or a leak in the system, commonly triggering P0441, P0446, or P0496 codes. The test involves monitoring fuel tank pressure while commanding the purge valve open and vent valve closed.

There are a number of specific potential trouble sources identified in the Dr. Google search, and you can look them up to help start your troubleshooting.

It is interesting that you do not see actual trouble code numbers with the message. I would look at the evaporation emissions control area first and see if the source of your issue is there.

So here is the update to my original post. Number one I did not use my scanner properly. When it gets warm I am going to have to play with the scanner. Because of the cold weather up here I decided to take the truck to my mechanic. He did not find the codes i did but he did get two codes P0172 Lean Bank 1 and P06DD oil pressure solenoid code. For the first code he cleaned the mass flow sensor. For Oil pressure code which can be caused by a clogged filter or dirty oil, I had 7500km on the since the dealer changed it before the vehicle was delivered to me. I was going to change the oil at 8000km and the day I drove to Toronto I noticed a lower than normal oil pressure at idle speed which i thought was strange. He did the oil change and normal oil pressure at idle about 275kpa has returned. Codes gone and have not returned, drove about 100km since the oil change. My thought is it was dirty oil or clogging filter. In the end only cost me about $80 more than just an oil change so i consider myself lucky. Thank you to everyone that responded here. So here is a final update. Last weekend it was warm and i went out into the YUKON XL and played with my scan tool. The mistake that i made when I did my original scan was that i did not put the ignition into the accessory position. I didn't know how to do this, (push start button and hold without depressing the brake pedal until the ignition goes into the the accessory position). Once i did this my scanner identified the vehicle and i can run numerous diagnostics. My scanner TOPDON ArtiDia600S has so many features and I have a lot to learn before I can use it to its full capabilities. The truck is running properly and there have been no further codes.
