Anyone have an idea what a GM dealer charges to make the OnStar connection go ****!? That way I won't have to give any more thought about OnStar and its federal government spy partners infringing on my privacy rights.

OnStar is quickly becoming a name associated with what gets flushed down a toilet. :Plugged:

If said goldfish was equipped with on star you would be able to locate it, turn its ignition off, and retrieve it.

I wonder if OnStar has a contract with the government to supply direct feeds on all vehicle movements whenever a vehicle is purchased by anyone from a foreign country? Yeah, I bet OnStar does.

Not sure if this article was posted in this thread yet. Wired Magazine talks all about the new policy. Pretty crazy.

http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/09/onstar-tracks-you/

Great blog post on the topic:
http://www.zdziarski.com/blog/?p=1270

This was posted over on the corvette forum. Adam Denison was the Onstar guy quoted in the above article.

Hi everyone,

I only wish I could drive a Corvette daily like all of you! My last job here at GM was to work with the media who write about Corvette. I actually had the privilege of launching the Grand Sport when it came out. Love that car.

Anyhow, I work here at OnStar now, so I can probably shed some light on this discussion about our Terms and Conditions.

As has been mentioned, we are amending our Terms and Conditions. Basically, we have added to the Terms and Conditions the provision that if you or we cancel the OnStar Services, the two-way connection with the your vehicle may continue to collect data unless you take certain steps to deactivate the data connection or fully disable the equipment. We are doing this to simplify the process for current and future owners of the vehicle to re-enroll in our services.

We will not continuously monitor or track the location of your vehicle nor will we be collecting any data about you or your vehicle. OnStar will provide you with prior notice if we plan to collect data from your vehicle, and we will obtain your express consent. OnStar values our subscribers’ privacy. We understand your need to protect your information.

The data we do have the capability to collect is not really much different than what we currently send out in the monthly diagnostic e-mails (tire pressure, warning lights, etc.). Hope this helps clear up any confusion. If you still have questions though, we invite you to check out our Privacy Center on OnStar.com, e-mail us at [email protected] or call us at 1.877.299.1372.

Appreciate the links, Kman.

I noticed someone posted on one of the links you provided that the blue OnStar light would go out once the "data connection" link is terminated. That is different information than I was told by OnStar on 09-19-11. We'll see what happens.

OnStar never provided me with an email update to their stated "right" to steal my personal information without my prior approval. Guess that's because I provided the jerks with a fake email address.

I do hope a class-action lawsuit is filed against OnStar.

I started the thread on the Corvette Forum. I cancelled OnStar in all 3 of my cars.

Ok, they can track fuel ups (when, where), fuel economy, speed, location, other things that your car already tracks (engine rpm, braking, etc). I have a facebook but only so my family in the Philippines can stay in touch. I don't know about the rest of the garbage such as twitter.

Here is one thing I find interesting in the new Terms and Conditions. As an owner of my OnStar equipped Yukon, Onstar said I must notify people that my vehicle has onstar including passengers. Why and the heck should a passenger care?

I paid $149 a year per vehicle and received about $2-3 off per month per car for insurance. No more!

Before you start connecting crap from the OnStar remember that onstar can prevent your vehicle from starting and slow it down if it is within the last couple of years. That means onstar is wired into the car's ignition system somehow.

To me, OnStar just became useless. I'm having them deactivate it and I'm watching the lights to make sure they go off.

Of course if you are desperate enough to get onstar, onstar now sells OnStar in a box for "most" vehicles.

And I don't break laws but I don't need to be tracked or watched to make sure I don't break the laws.

Here is another interesting "article". http://www.glennbeck.com/2011/09/21/uh-oh-government-motors-wants-to-track-you/

Interesting that the GM goons aren't providing information on how vehicle owners can disable the OnStar spy system, huh?

Maybe the ACLU will take an interest in this since it affects such a large group.

Whether you read the new agreement or not, or whether you terminate your subscription or not, OnStar will continue to access your vehicle/data. It's in the agreement!
You can only terminate the connection, unplug power, or antennas.

This OnStar debacle was on the Drudgereport News Page it has 30 million viewers a day!

GM Goons?

OnStar owned by GM owned by UAW owned by Democrat party owned by (?).
I see this Chicago style crony payback, next every road vehicle will be mandated to have a VCIM, made by? The gov't party owned, you guess it, OnStar!

ACLU? Too liberal to take on the dem's.

Watch out, eventually this crap will become mandatory in new vehicles. OBD III is supposed to be able to send an alarm if your emissions are not in specs. It wouldn't be hard to do with onstar right now especially since they share info with the DMV.

Guess I might as well start looking for that old Bronco or Scout afterall and retrofitting it with all the latest stuff I can get. Perhaps we'll all have to go back to building our own cars if we don't want to be on the grid or under constant monitoring. Haha, we'll even have to take the battery our of our cell phones when we travel or leave them at home. I forgot what it was like to drive 200+ miles or even to the store without my cell phone.

OnStar Spy Agency's new charter:

"Our primary goals are to help governmental agencies spy on you, help advertisers sell to you, and help insurance companies, cities, counties, states, and Uncle Sam stick it to you. Our secondary goal is to have someone help you if you pay us a fee and we can spare one of our employees from their primary goals as stated previously." :untitled:

Another link in an ever-expanding explosion of OnStar Spy Agency articles:

http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/onstar-plans-to-track-users-even-after-disconnecting-service/

The OnStar Spy Agency creeps keep chasing down reports all over the Internet trying to cover their dirty tracks. These purveyors are no different than window peepers, and the corporate goons running OnStar belong in jail. Here's a quote from the link above:

"OnStar records the speed, location and direction of drivers via GPS during an accident as well as if the driver and other passengers were wearing a seat belt. OnStar plans on supplying this information to police officers, when requested, as well as insurance companies who are seeking facts about any accident involving an OnStar vehicle."
