I have an edge evo cs its not a handheld but it works to disable afm and it corrects tire size. I just use it on transmission mode to get the firmer shifts and higher shift points. I heard good things about edge products and my buddy here sold me the one i have (he got a new truck)

I know you say you've looked into Black Bear but I just installed mine and it's unbelievable. A simple $240 mail order tune has so far gained me tons of throttle response, a night/day difference in my transmission behavior and on my first tank an additional 1.5 MPG (and I installed the tune when the tank was half full). I can't vouch for any hand held but I'm convinced BB is worth every penny.

Had a BB years back, the only complaint was having to mail it in for the modifications when upgrading or changing things.

Since then switched to Superchips products on an old Ford 250 and now on our 03 Sierra. Having the handheld we can control changes when we are towing or showing :)

Blackbear also has the Autocal handheld that allows you to install a custom tune they build for you. Their service includes custom tunes for life no matter your future mods. I'm in the process of installing a Whipple supercharger and they just e-mailed me my new tune which includes several new mods besides the blower including EGR delete and downstream O2 sensor delete so I can replace one of them with an AFR sensor. You can datalog and email the file to them and they will send you a tune based on the data and what you want.

would you guys recommend a trans tune for a well maintained tahoe with 165k miles? it seems to shift at the worst times when going up hills, will a tune fix this?

Hell yes it will. My Yukon has 145k and the tune made a huge difference. Shifts like it should during regular driving and then really grabs and goes under WOT and yet another level in sport mode. Pretty fun to drive now.

I was thinking of ordering the Range plug in, but after all the reading, I think I should go with the BB tune.

Just hung up with black bear. Unfortunately, to tune my 2010, it will be $599. I'm sad. Not ready to spend that dollar yet.

Just wait for an in-person. I think you can get around some of that cost that way

That's for an Autocal AND a lifetime tune. The Autocal itself is a $300 piece of hardware which you can use for as long as you like and then resell later if you don't want to keep it, and it allows for you to install tunes yourself that BB sends you. There's cheaper alternative BB tunes, just not as convenient. It all depends on your plans- if you will be changing your engine mods later then the Autocal is worth it. If you won't be messing with things and just want a one-time tune then do a mail order tune or an in-person if they come to your area.

Yes, I tried all options and he said for my year(2010), they don't keep those computers in stock. Only other option was in person tune which isn't close to me. I guess I'll go with the Range for now.

They have the Scan Cable tune for a 2010 also. $330 tune and then you pay a $190 refundable core deposit for the equipment needed to scan your vehicle and then install the tune file once they email it to you. It works like the Autocal but you don't buy the equipment, they loan it to you. At least that's what I read on their website. Did you check on that option?

I exhausted all options and he said the only 2 were in person or the $599 option where I send in my computer

Interesting. Maybe all the scan cables are out in use. They do advertise that as an option. Also, what about the Autocal? That's $599 and you keep the Autocal.

Probably a 6.2 with 6spd, those computers are hard to come by, and the TCM is inside the transmission itself. Only option is AutoCal or inperson in that case.

I purchased a range plugin for now. I figure the sooner I disable the AFM the better
