Have an 08 LT1, looking at trading in for a newer model with more options and less miles.

Most of the used 2012's I can find (in the Seattle area) are all Rental/Fleet returns with 20-30k miles (I mean there are dozens of them online up here). Prices are decent in the $30-$38k range, assuming the dealer takes a big mark up since they buy them at auction. Anyone have experience with these types of used vehicles, or any idea why they are so prevalent? I've rented a tahoe once or twice and they are usually LS's...and didnt have the options that most of these have...leather, rear dvd, sunroof.

Here's an example, carfax shows rental vehicle for one year.

All my research says the risk of a used rental is the same as any used car, it may or may not have had all maintenance done and has the miles put on in a very short timeframe so you never know how hard the vehicle was driven.
Just looking for some sound advise or first hand experience.

actually my tahoe is an old rental. not sure where from. it only had 11K on it when i got it. only issue when i got it was a small dent and scratch in the passanger side door and running board. they covered it for me and repainted the door and replaced the running board. as far as other issues...nothing really big....although now i am having a transmission issue, but not sure if it is directly related to the rental part of the car, or just the crappy 6 speed transmission in these trucks.

The Yukon has had no problems at all.

The Suburban, well...........

I bought both of mine Certified Pre-Owned. Buy your truck UNDER the 3 year /36,000 mile mark.

So say you buy a truck with 25,000 miles on it, then have it Certified, your warranty is ADDED.

This way you get to drive more.

36,000 mile - 25,000 miles = 11, 000 miles

Add the 11,000 miles to the 12,000 miles you get from the Certification........and you get 23,000 miles of hassle-free warranty.

Thanks. I assume you got good deals on these? Any advise on how far down the dealers will go on price? I assume there's no way to see what they paid at auction?

Oh the paint. :banghead:

Those idiots do use brushes and do not give a crap about the scratches.

Here again, the lower the miles the better.

Mine was a fleet car as well. Never had a serious problem. Had an oil consumption, but that was fixed under warranty. The only thing that pisses me off about this is the alarm issue where it keeps randomly firing off. Only happened after installing Gm Shock sensor and tilt sensor. Gotta take a trip to the dealer and try to uninstall it
