It's dehumidifying the air. The manual should tell you about it.

If you don't have automatic climate control, the system will turn on at the setting the vehicle was set to when the vehicle was last turned off.

Where in the manual - I couldn't find any reference to it in an 09 manual. All I can find is reference to A/C not coming on if temp is below about 40 degrees. OP said his was coming on at 20 degrees.

I don't know where, as I don't have it in front of me. But consider this: the vehicle will try to dehumidify the air by way of running the AC compressor. That's with the heat set at a certain point. That's NOT the same as trying to turn the AC on at a low temperature setting when it's below 40° outside.

See the difference?

My +1 meant I agreed with the dehumidifying part. I should have removed the reference regarding the manual.

All my vehicles do this. KM is spot on. The AC is on to remove moisture from the air being blown into the vehicle to reduce condensation on the windsheild.

I see the difference...but A/C won't turn on if temp is 40 degrees (or thereabouts) or lower...at least that's what my manual says no matter how humid it may be. It's tied to the device that measures the outside temp. Again I was just trying to understand why the OP says the A/C is coming on with outside temps at 20 degrees...according to the manual, it shouldn't.

I hear you, Jeff. My point is that maybe it's worded in such a way that it's vague. I'd have to see exactly what it says (I'll have to look at mine). If it says "won't turn on," then that, to me, can mean "will not come on automatically," -OR- "can not be turned on manually," which are two very different things.

I'll have to check it out and see what it says. Thanks!

OK - here's what I saw this morning - 09 Suburban LTZ - 32 degrees outside. Remote started, both front seat heaters came on and heater at hi fan speed (car was partially warmed up already)...but no dash lights or climate control icons so I had no clue what the temperature was set at or if the A/C was on. Before remote starting the climate control was set on auto at 80 and A/C wouldn't come on (3 flashes of the light then off) since temp was at 32. I tried it again with climate control at off before remote starting and still got heated seats plus heater with full fan speed. Once I inserted and turned the key to on, heated seats went off and auto climate control reverted to pre-remote start mode, in this case off. Still don't know why OP was seeing an A/C light on remote start since none of the lights come on and since the temp was 20.
