    I get approximately 28-30 mpg with my 2022, 5.3 on a flat road with the cruise set at 55-60mph. The cylinder deactivation makes a big difference.

    You will see problems at about 80,000 miles when you need a new DPF. Not cheap. This will erase all fuel mileage savings over the 5.3.

    Did they require premium fuel in those days? I bet people running 87 octane in the newer 6.2 is not helping matters. This is why I chose the 5.3 for my Tahoe and haven’t looked back.

    2023 Tahoe LT Duramax (w/ Luxury Package) - Initial thoughts after 3k miles

    I suspect that when you see the bill for replacing the oil pump wet belt and the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) you will have wished you had the 5.3. I wanted the baby diesel but the added cost of operating this engine erases any and all fuel savings.
