injector issues after engine work, tsb?

I'm not convinced either. All the videos i watched on youtube about replacing the injectors said the failures came with missfire codes of which I have none. Also, after sitting for the last week I decided to take the truck to work today and it drove fine, CEL is off, no stumble at idle, weird...

injector issues after engine work, tsb?

the mechanic got back to me, $820 and he will replace the 2 faulty injectors. Hmm, I want him to go in there and make sure it's right. But I could save $700 doing it myself. Not sure I'd know what the issue was though if its something other than the 2 injectors i was told were faulty. Option 2...

injector issues after engine work, tsb?

Thanks, I've watch a few videos, seems pretty straightforward to me. Should I replace the 2 bad injectors, or do all 8? Dealer said to do all and the fuel rails, but that seems absurd to me if only 2 are acting up.

injector issues after engine work, tsb?

I've decided that I'm going to replace the injectors myself. It doesn't look like that big of a job and I'm not paying anyone else to work on it after all this. I don't trust the dealer or the other guy to do it. Does anyone have a good source for a set of injectors? I'd rather go oem if they...

injector issues after engine work, tsb?

https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/update-engine-down-cam-lifter-upgrades.136985/ The shop that did the initial work said the injectors were not balanced ("way out of spec" were his exact words), the dealer however, said they were leaking down. Sorry if I used the terms interchangeably...

injector issues after engine work, tsb?

The loud rapping sound from the #7 lifter is what determined it was a lifter problem. In all seriousness though, the shop that did the lifters is an LS performance specialist, they have only 5 star reviews and seem to know what they are doing. I havent confronted them at this point, I'm asking...

injector issues after engine work, tsb?

$2412.72 they are now quoting me. 8 new injectors... Is there any possibility that the place that did the lifters for me damaged the injectors in some way? There were zero issues with idle or injectors prior to having the work done. The second I picked it up I could feel the issue and the CEL...

injector issues after engine work, tsb?

Dealer said it's only 2016-17 trucks that are covered. Looks like I'm SOL. I might just run a few cans of seafoam and see if that clears it up at all. runs fine other than idle.

injector issues after engine work, tsb?

Just had my lifters and pushrods swapped out after having the #7 lifter fail on my 2015 Yukon with the 5.3L and 67k miles on it. After getting the truck back the mechanic informed me that the idle was rough and he found 2 injectors that aren't "balanced" and that there is a tsb and I should have...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

I think I have an injector stuck open at the moment. It's idling like crap, but fine one you get on the throttle. I also had a bank 2 too rich code pop up. It's going back in thursday for that to be fixed. I kind of wish I did the cam, but the budget did not really allow that at the moment. As...

Noise when in Auto or 4W high

Running in 4wd is not a fix for having crappy tires. There is ZERO reason to drive in 4wd or auto 4wd on dry pavement. Get new tires or stop flooring it in turns. My truck is only ever in 4wd at the boat ramp or when I am off road and actually need it. You're burning up your driveline for zero...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

Well, It's done! It's running great other than a slight rpm fluctuation at idle. he said they'll take a look at it this weekend for me. It feels great though, better than before the lifter failed. Nice smooth power now and it's in V8 all the time. I'll attach pics of the invoice so you can see...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

yeah, I'm getting nailed cost wise, but that's what happens when I can't do the work myself. I would do this, but my new garage isn't built yet and my wife and I just welcomed our 3rd child this week so I do not have the time to deal with anything, let alone a project this involved. I'll just...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

^ no, he said with all the labor involved it would be an extra $3k to swap the cam and associated parts and it would only be about a 40hp increase. I guess on 2015+ there's a lot more labor to change the oil pump, motor has to come out since I'm 4wd and the pan can't be dropped without pulling...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

Hopefully these guys know what they are doing. They are LS performance specialists. He assured me there will be no DOD components left in the motor. I will of course make sure of that before I pick it up. He confirmed that he engine looks alright internally, they are going to do the new lifters...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

The truck is now at an LS engine builder that was local to me. They are going to swap all the lifters and remove the DOD stuff. For a few bucks more (double) They offered to change out cam, oil pump, springs, rockers, lifters, and dyno tune it for me. Tempting choice, once they inspect the...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

Well, OP here, My guy just informed me that the cyl 7 exhaust valve is stuck and most likely I'm looking at cam/lifters at the minimum. He's going to pull the head off in the next day or so and see if the block is salvageable. He told me that it's probably easier to just replace the engine, but...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

Thanks for the information there. I'll be looking into the kit and see if my guy can do all that for me. That's a little out of my range honestly. Weird thing is it has not thrown any codes...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

Yes, decision was definitely made for me. Video below. Sounds like top end noise to me, but hard to tell 100%. I'm having it towed to my mechanic who is going to take a look and report his findings to me. I'm fixing it regardless of what it is, but I'll be sure to do the Texas Speed DOD delete...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

Jokes on me I guess. Engine went pop this morning on my way to work! Accelerating onto the main road and it stumbled, then literally made a pop noise, then down on power and knock knock knock. feels like at least 1 cyl is down and it's making unpleasant noises. No codes on the dash at this time...

    *Update: Engine Down* Cam/lifter upgrades?

So, I love my Yukon and plan to keep it for at least another 100k miles. My plan is to make it last that long. What's the general consensus on disabling the AFM via a range device vs changing the lifters/cam to an aftermarket set up? I have about 70k on the truck right now and want to make it...

    Updated Thermal Control Valve

A few things after having the pill flipped for a few months now. Temps are great, usually around 140 empty, up to 175 or so light towing. Much better than the near 200 it was at before. Also, even though I have a 2015 model, my lines were the newer style, not the older style. Just something to...

Oil for 5.3L to reduce consumption

I was considering going up to 0-30 or even 5-30. I'm on the Space Coast of FL and it's already into the 90's here. I know these modern engines are rated for 0-20, but it just seems so thin to me. I'm fine with loosing 0.5 mpg to have better engine protection if heavier oil would provide it.

    Trans Cooler question

I towed about 4k this week through 90+ degree heat for about 60 miles each way and my trans never got above 170. Huge improvement over the stock set up. No extra coolers, just flipped the pill
