Bridgestone tires. good or bad? My experience.

You get what you pay for. The tires that come with the vehicle, car or SUV, are basic crap tires. If you get 10K out of them you’re lucky. Low end, basic tires are just to get it off the lot and down the road a ways. I always go with premium, high quality tires. In the long run they last longer...

    Motor Mounts

I replaced my 2012 Yukon SLE (5.3L) motor mounts at 100k. They were hydraulic and one was leaking, so I replaced both. The hydraulic ones have a lot of problems, so I went with the old rubber/steel ones. No problems after 3.3K miles.

Problem with keyless entry, unlock does not work on all my fobs.

Sounds like the trans/recvr unit is bad. My 99 Tahoe LT had the same trouble. What made it worse was the new one was bad too! Took a while to get one out here but it finally came and all ended well. Aloha!

    Crack in radiator

Barr’s may help until you can get a new radiator. Spend the extra time and money and get the completely metal radiator. They are expensive but they won’t crack like the OEM ones. And I speak from experience. My 99 Tahoe’s radiator cracked on the plastic side on the top. The OEM replacement...

    MILEAGE POLL

It’s paid for and I’ll keep it for as long as either one of us lives. Plus, at 129K, I don’t want to say anything nice and jinx it.

    Auto Theft

As my grandfather used to say, “Locks only stop honest people. If they want it they will find a way to take it.” A big tow truck comes to mind in your case. Get good, really good insurance. And enjoy your ride!

    TPMS Relearn Problems

Here’s the one I use. I got it on Amazon for $13. I have learned through experience that after you’re done remove the 9 volt battery before you store it. Also, weak batteries cause all sorts of weird problems, so make sure the 9 volt has a good charge before using. Mine hasn’t failed me in the...

Not Really News, Bigger Vehicles Are More Dangerous

A tall, raised pick up truck overturned in Waikiki a few weeks back. The guy was racing down Kalakaua Ave, doing around 45 mph, when he made a sharp turn to miss a car that was turning in the lane in front of him. He turned sharply and the truck flipped over several times and ended up on its...

    Fuel type/ Maintenace Questions

It’s a good idea to find out what type/octane was used before you bought it and stick with that type/octane. I had a 1999 Tahoe, from Canada, and it used low octane fuel. At the time I only used hi-octane fuel and in a few months I had a total fuel system failure, spider, injectors and the 3...

    Dead rodent in ductwork..yuck

Better get it before it gets all “mushy”. I’d use a mechanical claw to grab and pull. The claw is used to pick up screws and the like. Available at any auto parts store. Another way would be to push it back where it came from. I guess it just depends which end is showing and which way it came...

    What’s this?

Does the cord run to a plate under the oil pan? My 99 Tahoe was from Canada and was equipped with an oil pan heater. It keeps the oil in a viscus state which lets it be pumped or circulated in a cold engine. Starting a cold engine will seize before the oil gets warm enough to pump or circulate...

    What is that damn smell??

You’ll probably want to change out or replace the cabin air filter. You can even get a HEPA cavil air filter. That way you’ll have a clean filter after you’ve cleaned everything else. Just a thought. Aloha!

    Can’t Fill Gas Tank

Replace the pump now and you’ll save yourself time and money down the road. I had a gauge problem on my 99 Tahoe LT. My mechanic pulled the tank and said the internals were good. I told him to change everything an start new. Pulling the tank is a pain and it’s time consuming. He assured me...
