    99 Tahoe 4wd not engaging.....however.

Grounds have been checked, they are all good. When the actuator is plugged into the harness and installed I can feel it engaging when 4wd is selected.

    99 Tahoe 4wd not engaging.....however.

The model was exactly as I removed. It came from a rebuilder. The other day when I was working on this it did not seem like the actuator was engaging far enough. I proved this out tonight. I pulled the actuator and inserted a 3/4 inch socket in and then the actuator. Wheels did not turn in 2wd...

    99 Tahoe 4wd not engaging.....however.

OK, I could not download those files referenced in the above post. they showed to be infected. I put on a new TCCM and still nothing. Must be something inside the front diff that is causing me grief. As stated before, the front driveshaft turns providing rotation into the front diff. I can...

Thanks for the diagnostic manuals much appreciated! I'll check it out. I will also check the power steering pump. Thanks. I already tried a new actuator, did not resolve issue. Should have a new tccm by Wednesday. I'll update afterwards.

Well that did not fix it, guess I'll get a tccm.

Replacing TCCM on 1999 Yukon looking for pointers

See my post in this section if you have not figured it out. It's simple https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/99-tahoe-4wd-not-engaging-however.144340/

Maybe on older models but this has always had an electrical one. This is a 99. I will get another and try it.

    99 Tahoe 4wd not engaging.....however.

Yes I just tried, I was able to push the fork, it locked both wheels together. However the actuator does not appear to travel as far as I had to push in the screw driver. The actuator travel is only an inch. It's an electrical motorized actuator. The travel is set but a stop on the ram. I guess...

I watched that video yesterday. Ok thanks guys, I will attempt that today. Maybe the actuator is not coming out far enough for engagement.

BTW, those two wires appear to go to a missing abs unit that should mount on that bracket.

    99 Tahoe 4wd not engaging.....however.

Since everything has checked out except the tccm, I will replace that as I see nothing else that could be stopping this from engaging. The removal of the tccm is straight forward if you get a pair of pliers to pull down on the tccm after removing the two 10mm bolts that hold it in place. After...

    99 Tahoe 4wd not engaging.....however.

Yes the front driveshaft turns when 4wd is engaged. I took it off the stands, put it in 4wd, drove it then jacked up the front. The wheels and shaft turn by hand, but they are not turning together. Something in the diff must not be engaging. Not sure how the stub shafts get engaged.

    99 Tahoe 4wd not engaging.....however.

Not sure if something is missing as the PO has all the abs and O2 sensors unplugged.

So there are the 2 wire connectors, if you look there is a bracket which I assume something should go there. The white connector goes above the actuator. The red connector comes out of the crankshaft position sensor harness. I thought the white connector was a propshaft speed sensor, but B-train...

    99 Tahoe 4wd not engaging.....however.

I thought that was the actuator which is working as I removed it and pressed the 4wd button. It popped out so it is engaging. I do see this harness on top which must be what you are referring to. Its on top of the actuator. It is not connected to anything? I do see another 2 pin connector there...

    99 Tahoe 4wd not engaging.....however.

Hi guys, I'm back after getting my 99 Tahoe running again. Strange thing I can't determine. The front driveshaft turns, so the encoder motor on the transfer case is working. When I select any 4wd mode I hear the front actuator engage. I even removed it to verify operation. It is indeed engaging...

    Yet another crank no start...strange

Got it going, After I added the ICM was trying to start but it wouldn't start, I then add a new coil. After a couple times it fired up and ran well. I was able to pull several codes, one was MAF, another was temp sensor. But the one that stands out was low voltage at the ICM. I cleared them all...

    Yet another crank no start...strange

Yes, when I tried starter fluid it attempted to fire off but died right away. Just put on a new fuel filter, gained 3 psi, so I am now at 58, with it falling off a little like before. When I checked for spark it was yellow across several cylinders. Might just be the ICM. I will get the ICM...

10 minutes, I'm sure old injector is leaking. Once I get it running I will pull it into my shop and replace those.
