Disabling AFM without the cam and lifter replacement

Not sure I'd tell my landlord anything like that out of considering what might follow if something goes wrong, even if it's not related.

    A/C Question

Thanks for that information. Unfortunately that gives me the impression that the average shop is not going to know how to repair the system. We have had a few Tahoes whose ac stopped working, including the current one. The information provided tends to make me abandon the thought of repair as...

    A/C Question

If not already mentioned, I found that when my refrigerant was low the system would not engage, not even a little; the light on the switch button will not even go on.

    A/C Question

This is from left field and may have no bearing but Subaru's ac clutch has a specified gap range between the engaging face plate and the main body (pulley). Apparently as there is wear the gap widens. The face plate is originally installed with a few shims on it's flange to get the original...

    Front CV-Axle Replacement Question

The hub had previously been changed so the axle was fairly easy to get moving in the hub. The issue was the clearances, first to get the axle to clear the stub axle flange from the differential but moreso to remove it from the surrounding hardware.

    Front CV-Axle Replacement Question

I wish min went that easily. Perhaps the passenger's side will.

    Front CV-Axle Replacement Question

I had to remove the sway bar link, the tie rod end connection to the steering knuckle to get the strut to even wiggle. At that point loosening the upper 3 nuts on the strut and the bottom 2 bolts allowed it to sway out of the way to deal with the axle. It seemed that the tie rod connection and...

    Brake Caliper Slide Pin Question

I only measured .005" difference in diameter from the originals and new aftermarket replacements. There was not much difference in the feel.

    Brake Caliper Slide Pin Question

What I wrote was "Regarding rear brakes, when the caliper is removed, should there be any noticeable wobble of the individual (loose) pins in the bracket holes?" Is that unclear? Replacing the caliper and pins may not address a loose fit if the mounting bracket bores are worn. But what...

    Brake Caliper Slide Pin Question

Thank but not the question. Should the pins have noticible wiggle room in the bracket holes?

    Brake Caliper Slide Pin Question

Regarding rear brakes, when the caliper is removed, should there be any noticeable wobble of the individual (loose) pins in the bracket holes? The pins were greasy and appear to be chromed and are without bear spots in the coating so if the slight wiggle is abnormal I'd wonder if it's the fault...

    Wow at the Pump

Luckily we only adopt CA standards and not the pricing. Emissions is one thing but seismic requirements was always obsessive to me. Glad I don't deal with that anymore.

    Wow at the Pump

I was surprised to see it being we seem to follow California standards. There were no restriction on the pump other than the price. For equipment I feel safer with a known name like Sunoco Optima that is available a short distance away. And it has a shelf life of a minimum of 3 years. That pump...

    Wow at the Pump

Saw this at the pump today. Might just as well get race fuel octane if paying $9.99 a gallon.

    Sunsong Brake Hoses?

Any opinions on Sunsong brake hoses (at the calipers)? I've read that they may be an oem supplier but can't verify that or if there are differences in quality; There is a significant price difference.

Issue After Brake Rotor & Pad Replacement

I generally do too but these rotors have a silver coating all over for "severe" climate protection and no visible bare metal. (POWER STOP AR8654EVC)

Issue After Brake Rotor & Pad Replacement

Interesting. When first installed and written about I had done the 40 to 20 routine for 5 times or so, firmly but not standing on the brakes. Since that I have been just driving normally and the brakes feel great. Pedal is high, response is impressive and there is no abnormal pedal feedback...

    Front CV-Axle Replacement Question

Thanks. I ordered one of the old model number and received a different number shown on the label above. I did run across a site that had quite a few superseded numbers. I presume it's just a number change but not sure. It installed and works fine. The dealer's price that you shared is up there...

    Front CV-Axle Replacement Question

Resurrecting this to ask a stupid question because I think I got a stupid answer from one of the on-line GM Parts vendor's agents (or so I think it was). The question was "Does the same front half-shaft (cv) axle fit both sides as there is only one part number shown (which I provided)?" That...

Issue After Brake Rotor & Pad Replacement

A clunk or two when first maneuvering turns in the driveway. I can't say why but I seem to thing the strut may have something to do with it. They have just 50,000 miles on them. Don't see crumbling top cushion but not much of it is visible. Nothing going down the road and hitting bumps. I...

Issue After Brake Rotor & Pad Replacement

No smoke. Perhaps new ceramic pads also contributed. Second day out for a test and the heat is much less but I was less aggressive burnishing and the weather is 25 degrees cooler. That's not to say there might not have been an intermittent freeze up or hiccup with the hose possibly having been...

    Rock Auto

I just wanted to add that I had the packaging badly abused by a certain carrier on my last two RA orders. Inner manufacturer's packaging pretty broken up too. All of my future orders will be via UPS who seem to respect the job and the merchandise. Not faulting RA but rather my choice of carriers...
