This is the same way mine was cracked. Dealership originally denied the claim and wanted $1100 P&L to replace it. Their reason for denial was that we had to have smashed the dash for that type of damage to occur. I called GM customer service and a relative that works at a GM dealership to... -

Front Dash Crack
This past Sunday, I discovered the same issue with my 2007 Tahoe. It is at the dealership right now and they are denying coverage under manufactures warranty. Obviously, I'm not giving up so easy since I found this forum/post.
