Torque converter recommendation and trans tune

If you read the "marketing description" it lists it as multi disc. Here is another. There is also a .pdf in this website. https://www.repxpert.us/en-us/luk-torcon/luk-6l80-torcon

Yep. That was also a consideration. Going to put my old one on FB marketplace as a core.

Torque converter recommendation and trans tune

Update to the thread. I decided to go with the Luk TC0017 torque converter. My reasoning is that it has twin discs, all brand new with the later style mounting plate. I also added a transmission cooler while I was at it and did the Black Bear trans only tune. So far everything is working well...

Gear swap from 3.42’s to 3.73’s worth it?

That’s kinda what I thought. I think I will look for a rear axle assembly with 3.73 gears.

Gear swap from 3.42’s to 3.73’s worth it?

It’s all stock with stock 17” wheels. I do just general towing (boat, utility trailer 3000#?). The 3.08 just feels lousy when accelerating no load, in tow mode it’s somewhat better. I am getting a Black Bear tune for the transmission to improve the shifting and hopefully improve its life span.

Gear swap from 3.42’s to 3.73’s worth it?

I have a 2wd 2010 Suburban 5.3/6L80 and it’s got some soccer mom gears like 3.08. It’s lousy to even pull a little utility trailer. Been thinking about finding a axle with 3.73 gears, but would 4.10 be better?

    DOD delete Yay or Nay

For everybody that is running the Restore and Protect, do you use it for all 6 qts? It comes in the typical 5 quart jug, so do you buy another quart or just use a less expensive conventional oil for the 6th quart?

    DOD delete Yay or Nay

I habe been thinking about switching over to the Restore and Protect. Im in Florida and dont know that the 5w30 vs 10w30 would make much of a difference.

    DOD delete Yay or Nay

I have a 2010 Suburban LT 5.3. I got the burb when it had 225k miles on it with a bad 6l80. Wasnt sure what I was going to do with it at first but the owner gave me a folder about an inch thick with all the repairs and maintenance done since it was new. They did take good care of it and had full...

Torque converter recommendation and trans tune

My understanding was that if the AFM was disabled, then the cylinder switching was not a factor anymore? That’s why I am considering the trans tune only to deal with shifting and lockup functions.

Torque converter recommendation and trans tune

I'm not really interested in engine performance tune as I am happy enough with that. I did send the ECU off years ago and had the AFM turned off. Plus there is the cost of having to buy the AutoCal hardware to do the remote tune, which is $750 tune/hardware combined. Then what am I going to do...

Torque converter recommendation and trans tune

I'm really interested in the LUK TC0017. Being its all new and a dual clutch design it sounds like a better upgrade. The reman process worries me anymore unless you go with a smaller rebuilder but it usually costs a lot more than the big companies like CVC. The converter I have in there now is...

Torque converter recommendation and trans tune

Black Bear offers the transmission tune only as a separate purchase. When you had yours done is there anything specific you wanted? Or do the have a more "generic" tune they do for the these vehicles?

Torque converter recommendation and trans tune

I have a 2010 Suburban 5.3 6L80 that I think the torque converter is beginning to fail. I rebuilt the trans 50k miles ago but used a generic rebuilt stock style converter. I am starting to get symptoms of the converter going south and want to replace it before it trashes anything. So it seems...

    HVAC fault codes question.

Forgot to mention that the oil pressure sensor had a small amount of oil inside the connector area. It seems like it leaked past the connector pins, so I cleaned out the connector. The used NAPA one I put back in was dry and am sure it was dry when I removed it before.

    HVAC fault codes question.

So the evap temp sensor definitely solved the problem. If I didnt have the scan tool to see what temperature it was reading, I am sure I would have wasted a lot of time and effort with the refrigerant side of things. This is because it presented as being low on freon or a clogged fixed orifice...

    HVAC fault codes question.

Next update for the HVAC codes / problem. I got the new evap sensor and worked on installing it. Found a rubber plug that fit a 1-3/4" hole. So I used a holesaw and carefully opened up the evaporator case. Was able to pry the old sensor out. Next I made a loop with some string and cinched it...

    AC charge question.

I got the new evap sensor and worked on installing it. Found a rubber plug that fit a 1-3/4" hole. So I used a holesaw and carefully opened it up. Was able to pry the old sensor out. Next I made a loop with some string and cinched it around the connector up top. Was able to reach the topside...

    HVAC fault codes question.

Update on the door control problem. Did some research and testing and figured out there is a broken wire in the harness where the door hinges. With the door closed everything works but when it’s open it doesn’t work. Wiggle test confirms that I can make it work with the door open. So if the door...

    AC charge question.

Per the service manual it’s like a 7hr job. Found some videos and information to cut a hole and fish the old one out and the new one in.

    AC charge question.

Did more research on my issue with the drier freezing up. With my scan tool I went in and checked anything related to the HVAC and found that the evap air temp seems to be out of whack. There are 3 different readings, evap air temp desired, evap air temp filtered, evap air temp raw. The desired...

    HVAC fault codes question.

I was investigating the U0200-00 code for the door control module B communication. First I was trying to figure out which module that is and I think its the passenger side front door switch/control module. Next I double checked the operation of the mirror, door lock and window operation. From...

    HVAC fault codes question.

Update on the actuator codes. I used my scan tool to go in and test them and just look to see what I could do with it. After that I did the calibration a couple of times. Once with the ac on and then again with the hvac turned off. After a couple of days those codes have not come back yet. All...

    HVAC fault codes question.

Did a little thinking and then some research. I think the B1000 3C code in the ECU may be from the tuner "switching off" the AFM within the ECU. I had shipped the ECU off and had it done while I had the burb torn apart. I thought the idea of not having one of the Range products plugged into the...
