    The 01 also has the orange wire at the amp, though I forget what gauge it is. The powered sub I bought is 200W RMS, 800W peak, not sure if the factory wiring could safely handle that or not. Thanks for the thought on the hood latch, I'll check that out.

    Thanks for the response. I'm gonna look into that Tech 2 scan tool- I had something similar for my Ram and it was worth it's weight in gold- I didn't know Chevy had something like that (full disclosure, I haven't owned a Chevy for 15+ years).
