When Installing cam I put a generous coating of assembly lube on it as well as the pushrod tips, springs, rocker arms. I used a L96 cam to keep VVT in my LMG which appears to work well.
Put some oil in new oil pump so it wasn't bone dry. Lifters came from texas speed as a kit and were in a bag...

I added something like this to secure the oil pickup pipe and avoid any o ring issues down the line.
Dont forget Assembly lube to give...
It also gave me an opportunity to replace the timing chain, oil pump, new exhaust bolts (replace snapped ones), new spark plugs, oil pan clean (full of gunk) coolant change along with lifters cam etc. Full Afm delete is preventative maintenance for the engine in the long run as you have removed...
I got to 260000kms (160000 miles) before it appeared, PPV are usually well maintained despite the miles/hours run. This tahoe had 200000km when I bought it so I don't know how well it was maintained. I make sure now when it goes through oil changes its synthetic (more cost) to help preserve it
Got AFM programmed out prior to strip down, there's a local GM specialist shop who recommended it as I could start up etc when built. I should probably take it back and fine tuned.
Update
500km done and still running fine and oil change done. Looked pretty dark for oil that was a week old, will cut filter open to see if any bits are in there. New filter and synthetic oil ( Mobil1) to keep things rolling smooth
If you have any questions I can help with just ask..having an old mechanic to supervise helped but it was a lot newer than what he used to work on .if you have some mechanical knowledge and ability it can be done. Added some more pics
Sorry for lack of after pictures ...I was using phone to...
Friday afternoon to Sunday night...but that was with meal breaks and trips to autoshop etc. Could be done in 2 days if you had everything ready at hand, we found some issues that required more parts so dealt with those which took time. Right angled impact wrenches are a lifesaver along with...
Yes, all GM oem trays, it was turned over a couple of times with injectors disconnected to get oil through the system. Fired up and instant good pressure once injector leads in. New exhaust manifold bolts as well, one was snapped off ( back one of course) before I even started. Managed to get...
Hello folks,
I finally got around to fixing my 5.3 2012 tahoe and got rid of afm, it's now running smooth and no faults.
I used a kit from Texas speed along with oil pump and timing chain for long term piece of mind.
I had help from retired mechanic relative who supervised my spannering. There...
Go on social media etc and find a decent local shop with a good reputation. They would be a good second opinion especially at those crazy prices.
FYI I was quoted just approx $3300cdn for afm delete at a local shop with plenty of dod delete experience and satisfied customers ( I'm doing the...
Hello folks,
I wish to gain knowledge from the forum again.
I have been looking at options of repair my 260000kms 2012 lmg vvt engine with lifter failure and cam wear or replace it with a 2009 low mileage lc9( it has 100000 less kms). Is it a straight swap ?
The engine swap is cheaper...
