The Adventures of Sylvester, the 2018 Suburban 3500 HD and our 2017 Airstream 27FB

Because I can't seem to leave well enough alone when it comes to technical projects, I've gotten a few more things done as the opportunities arose. First, I upgraded the factory SeeLevel II tank monitor to the BPT7 bluetooth-enabled version, and got it working with the Victron Cerbo GX and...

Yeti's Very Long and Slow NC Home Build

To add to what 07Burb said, I don't see a parking spot for our Airstream. I will just assume that we'll see it in future drawings. Yes, 50A please. It would be a good idea to put one in because we plan to be visiting often and prefer not to mingle with our hosts whenever possible. :anitoof:

The Adventures of Sylvester, the 2018 Suburban 3500 HD and our 2017 Airstream 27FB

Finished up the install last week and wired in the solar panels over the weekend. Everything works and we still get to use most of the closet, but my feet are killing me from standing on that ladder for 4 hours on Saturday, lol. It's pretty satisfying to watch the power assist feature work. I...

You're welcome, my friend! Glad you got through that bout with pneumonia. We wanted you to have something to enjoy when you got home.

Who has the most miles on their 07-14 SUV?

255K on our '07 now. It's an L92 (6.2L) so it never had AFM. Still runs great and I'd take it anywhere.

You're right, of course. Ours is 4.25%, so the case is less strong but still not insignificant. Part of it is that the current long-term 'safe money' (FDIC insured) interest you can get is ~3.5%, so I justify it with that delta. Our IRAs have well outperformed that over the past several years...

The Adventures of Sylvester, the 2018 Suburban 3500 HD and our 2017 Airstream 27FB

Spent the last 10 days working on the inside, drawing up designs, throwing them away, settling on a final design, and then making up the cables, pulling them through chases, rebuilding the wardrobe floor to hold the weight of the batteries, programming the devices, and putting it all together...

This is the way. We throw an extra $1K at the mortgage every month, and every dollar of that goes toward the principal. We don't want any debt in retirement.

That space looks yuuuuuge! Nice to see the soil dry - this winter's been a bugger.

The Adventures of Sylvester, the 2018 Suburban 3500 HD and our 2017 Airstream 27FB

The mild, sunny weather over the weekend gave me a chance to get 5 of the 6 solar panels installed on the roof. Silly me - I ordered the panel mounts when I was only planning on being able to fit 5 panels up there from a different manufacturer. But with these new Shadowflux panels I can fit up...

Been watching the weather out there - big storms have come through in the past few weeks. And we just had a gorgeous weekend!

Everything has arrived like Santa's sleigh crashed on the front porch! The Victron Quattro II 120x2 is in the big blue box. It's the most advanced inverter/charger on the market today for RV/marine duty. Designed in The Netherlands, and they have a great reputation with customers. It's going to...

Be sure to leave enough extra room for our Airstream to park there, too. The better for us to "moochdock" with. :p And if you can have a 50A RV outlet, water spigot, and septic drain installed there too, that would be great! :happy175:

    Chevrolet Suburban 3500 Questions

Gotcha. AFAIK, the Brembo big brake kit others are using are only made for the 1/2-ton, 6-lug rigs. The only significant upgrade I know of for our 8-lug Suburban 3500's is the Wilwood, and they are pricey...

They're truly a game changer for the viability of solar and off-grid living. They store twice as much energy in the same space as AGM batteries and still only weigh half as much. And you can discharge them almost fully without damaging them. Take a conventional lead-acid or AGM battery below 50%...

The Adventures of Sylvester, the 2018 Suburban 3500 HD and our 2017 Airstream 27FB

Update for the Airstream: Just dropped $4500 on a Victron Quattro 3000 2x120 inverter/charger from explorist.life, along with their whole system remote programming service. I also bought a second identical Vatrer battery (for 600Ah total), a 150/60 Victron bluetooth solar charge controller for...

Hmmm... I'm not aware of a Brembo big brake kit for the Suburban 3500. I know Wildwood makes one. Do you have a particular kit in mind? I would welcome the learning!

    Escalade parts on Denali

@Doubeleive would know about the rear bumper cover. The doors will fit but may require some programming with a Tech2 to get working if the features are different from your Denali.

The engine on the Yukon I got as a replacement for the Yukon that got two engine replacements needs replaced. Yes, you read that correctly.

Correct. And direct injection diesels are typically just as susceptible, if not more so. That said, I don’t know if GM did anything to mitigate it on the 3.0, but other manufacturers (e.g. BMW) are still struggling with it.

Yeah man. Especially THIS winter. Here in Richmond we've had the longest stretch of days below freezing since the 1930's. We finally warmed up enough yesterday to break up the layer of hard ice that's been sitting on top of everything. February is a terrible time for dirt work at our latitude...

    Chevrolet Suburban 3500 Questions

Now this is getting into the realm of stuff we ALL deal with eventually on the GM large SUV platform. You're right to not suspect the head gasket first. The things I would look at (in order): 1/ All coolant hose connection points. If any of the hoses have ever been removed, it's common for them...
