On my 2017 Tahoe Premier I had the problem with my screen going crazy at random times like a ghost was touching it. After getting great advice on this forum I purchased a replacement on e-bay from a link here and used the video linked here too (I purchased the glass and digitizer combo). As suggested in the video, before putting all of the trim pieces back, I plugged the radio in to test it and the new touch screen worked perfectly, so I put everything back. Now, when I start up the car, the screen always works fine right away, but within a minute or two it starts going crazy and is unresponsive to my touch. What now happens that never happened before is that the radio screen comes up on my dashboard screen now in place of the speed numbers. Also, the ghosting happens 100% of the time now instead of being a widely random problem with the original screen. My question is if you think this is a bad replacement screen that I purchased or if this could be a mistake I made in my install. I would think that if this is an install mistake that it wouldn't work at all, but it does always work fine for a few minutes after car start. Do I need to get another ebay replacement screen? I am way beyond the return window on the current replacement.

My money would be on the e-Bay replacement being bad. If it's china-made, not likely the replacement will be much better.
Seeing as it works for awhile, your work is probably fine.

Best option is new GM, but I'm rather certain they're BIG bucks.
A good alternate would be to pull a used OEM unit from a wrecked Tahoe, or better yet, some yards will pull them for you.

That sucks. I'm having the same problem with my 17 and was going to replace it shortly.

Don't bother with used unless you know it's a recent GM replacement. It's such a common problem there's no guarantee a used one won't have issues too or that it'll last any length of time.

if it works and then goes wacky it's probably a bad screen or digitizer, request a return and try another.
you do have to be careful that your work area is very clean and no dust or particles have been wedged in the edges some how.
make sure it is a NEW screen, not open box or someone else's returned one.

i purchased my screen unit from Amazon, it had the same brand name as the OE. slightly different lettering, and it has been fine - so far. Only difference is the new screen has a shiny surface instead of the dull finish on the original. And note that the little ribbon cables don't actually slide in like in most computers. They go in slightly and the lock tab secures them. Make sure the brass/gold contact surfaces are clean and shiny. I put a dab of grease on those push in metal retainers, might need to pull it all apart again someday. I'd guess you just got a bad unit.

Thank you for the replies. I have not surprisingly had no luck with the ebay seller I bought this screen from. I have ordered one from Cuescreens which is more expensive but has a two year warranty (vs. 30 days with the Chinese ones). They also seem to be a legit company.

I had the exact same problem with my 2017 LT. I wound up replacing the whole radio, screen and digitizer. The quick fix you completed sounds like you did everything ok. You probably have a defective screen. It may behoove you to try a whole u nit replacement, not just the screen. Good luck.

Just to follow up on this issue, I purchased a screen from CueScreens. It was a lot more expensive compared to the cheap ebay one I first purchased. However, it has a 2 year warranty vs. a 30 day warranty for the cheap one. I installed it right away and installation was significantly faster the second time around since I didn't have to stop and look at youtube constantly. It has been in a week now and there have been zero problems. If I had to do it over again I would never have tried the cheap screen.

when buying the screen cheap or not, just be sure it is new and not open box or refurbished. I found there were several that were listed for less than average price and that's kind of a dead giveaway. Glad it worked out, there is no other reasonable price option and the dealer won't do it. If they did they would probably charge $500+ in labor anyway.
