Can you do that? DEF is EPA required and must be used if your vehicle came with it. Depending upon the state that you are in, there are emission inspection requirements, which will include verification that the emission system has not been tampered with.

I trade cars frequently. For the last ten years or so every dealer has required a signature attesting that the emissions system is intact.

Reputable shops in many areas today will show you the door and refuse to work on a deleted vehicle.

For me the biggest deciding factor is today’s diesels perform better with DEF than yesterday’s did without.

Understandably many of us don’t like being dictated to by the EPA. I refused to buy diesels when they were going through the learning period on emission controls. However that’s in the past. In my opinion.

Not to mention scrapping your warranty out. If a dealer seen a deleted 2021 vehicle, they would have every right to void your complete warranty on the spot. 7 years old and out of warranty? Well then, your choice.... I never even looked in to tuning until my others were well out of warranty...

Here’s a perspective from someone who knows a lot about diesels. Hear his take on reliability and fuel economy.

We have a few deleted trucks in our fleet. Reliability goes WAY up (from once a week with expensive repairs breakdown, to none). Fuel Mileage goes up. Engines run quieter, cooler, and have more power.

Downside? What downside, unless you are still under warranty, or live in one of the ****** states.

But if Commiefornia gets there way, in a couple years, a deleted truck wont be able to even get plates. Tuners are already working on a get around for that one too...

Right-To-Repair, depending on its outcome, will have a big impact there.
