Try to decide on a tow rig

Man, I thought I struck gold. My neighbor fixes and resells cars and has probably 10-12 cars on his property. Yesterday, one of my turkeys flew over there and he flagged me down. I saw two Suburbans parked next to one another in his fix it fleet. I was thinking, "could it really be!?!?"...

Haha...or ONLY try this at home [and don't leave].

You are probably right regarding having a Suburban/Yukon 2500. I could sell my 06 Odyssey and use it as our 3rd vehicle (behind the MDX and F150) to help justify its existence.

    A very good point.

Try to decide on a tow rig

I don't have the camper yet. Kind of deciding on both the rig and the camper at the same time. Do I get a pickup and a cab over camper or do I get a big SUV and pull? Trying to do the leg work now for the Rushmore tip next year. Alaska will be in 2022 or 2023, likely for my F-I-L's retirement.

That's awesome. How long was that fuel on F?

Try to decide on a tow rig

Next summer, God willing, I plan on taking a trip from Phoenix->Yellowstone->Mount Rushmore with my family. We are talking about either towing a camper or using a cab over. I have a 2007 F150 5.4, but I'd personally rather a 3/4 ton to tow that far. If I went cab over I'd almost certainly...

    Looking at 2011 Yukon Denali

Bid in. He told me he'd like to hold off for more, but will consider. From my end, I'll withdraw my bid on Saturday if I haven't heard anything and look elsewhere. Would still like to consider Yukons if this one doesn't work out. Perhaps a Tahoe or Suburban.

    Looking at 2011 Yukon Denali

Edit: Adjusted slightly I thinking about this as a bid. * $11,100 starting price * Average of KBB Good and Very Good conditions ($11,700 + $10,500 / 2) with all features and 172,000 miles. This accounts for tires that will need changing and for malfunctioning running board. * $3,500...

    Looking at 2011 Yukon Denali

The Denali is not an XL and it is AWD. My towing needs would likely max out at 6000 lbs. My F150 can also handle that if need be....if I were towing something by myself I almost certainly would use the F150. The biggest demerit against the Excursion right now to me is the fact that the most...

    Looking at 2011 Yukon Denali

Well, the price is the next thing. I have to assume the cost of a full rebuild when I give a bid. Having just done the Ford 5.4, I have a clue what I'm up against there. KBB seems to about $11,500 for a good example with 172,000. His initial offer is $7800 obo.

I guess I'm naive on pushrod issues and idiosyncrasies. I've been in one guys Chevy truck that had a lifter sound...this sounded like 10x that noise.

So another point, I did show the video to my father-in-law who has a solid knowledge of engines. His comment was "sounds like lifters, definitely valve train".

    Looking at 2011 Yukon Denali

So I found out more. I went and looked at the car tonight. First of all, the owner was a salt of the earth guy. Very kind and generous. Gave me free meals at his restaurant for just showing up. gave me a big pack of quail eggs because we both raise chickens. Pretty cool. The car was...

    Looking at 2011 Yukon Denali

Here are a few of pics from my F150 rebuild if anyone is curious. With the oil pan off I found the culprit...a spun/failed thrust bearing. By the time I took it out I just decided that since I spent $800 on the truck I'd blow the motor apart, get it machined, and put it back together...
