Engine Temperature Keeps Getting Lost and Fans Run at Full Speed - SOLVED

The fact that you have replaced the coolant temp sensor 3 times should tell you that you're on the wrong track. No worries though, most members here with this issue have done the same thing (myself included). The issue is definitely with the thermostat and nothing to do with the coolant temp...

L86 to L8T in '19 Yukon XL Denali

Be mindful of oil consumption issues. Before and after my L8T swap, I followed a few GM HD forums where owners would discuss oil consumption. I changed the oil in my L8T every 3000 miles. Perhaps a little excessive, but seemed like a small price for peace of mind. I didn't have any notable oil...

    Thermostat replacement

In addition to the above recommendations, be sure to scan for any stored codes. The failure you're experiencing prompts a stored code for "coolant temperature below threshold". If not cleared, there are cases where symptoms can still linger. Be mindful that in a lot of cases, this stored code...

@chevman88 What grade of fuel are you running in the L8T? It is designed to run 87, and that is what I ran in mine, but I am curious what your stance is on the matter.

I kept the stock gearing in place. Getting a 10 speed behind that engine would have been amazing too. I am curious to hear more about the driving experience of OP.

On my L8T swap, my Suburban was a PIG around town as far as MPGs go. The torque down low in city driving was insane though! The MPGs did seem to improve greatly on highway travel. I had the 6 speed transmission behind my L8T though. I would imagine the 10 speed will return better MPG and an...

    Clicking noise-2019 Yukon Denali 6.2L

@Scubagills Google search shows GMP Automotive in Apex, NC may be a solid option. They have a very high 4.9 rating on Google reviews, and from the looks of it, could likely handle digging into your engine and fixing it rather than dumping $$$$ on a whole new engine. I believe you mentioned...

$20,500 is still beyond absurd. If you love the vehicle and want to keep it long term, getting a 2nd opinion of the diagnosis from the GM dealer wouldn't be a terrible idea. If they confirm it is a true engine replacement job, then you could consider trade or fix avenues at that point. I would...

This definitely sounds extreme. You could easily obtain a low/no mile engine from an salvage yard seller on Ebay and have an independant shop install it for WELL under 10k. Furthermore, if it is a lifter, there are even cheaper ways to replace the lifter/camshaft parts with even stronger parts...

What % window tint do y'all have ?

50% full windshield may be an ideal move for you. You could always add a 5% strip along with it to help with the sunlight glare. I have several friends who have had both 35% and 50% windshields and none of them recommend 35%. They say daytime driving is great but nighttime is borderline...

How is the tune coming along? Wonder if some revisions of the tune could smooth out the issues at idle, or do you think it is a mechanical defect?

    2020 losing MPG

A mix of winter blend fuel, using defrost/heat, likely more idling, and just the overall loss of efficiency in cold weather is my guess. You will very likely see an improvement in your MPG numbers as the cold weather breaks into Spring/Summer.

Great chance you have a lifter issue. Get it to a mechanic ASAP to read the code and for a proper diagnosis. If the lifter completely collapses, it can cause further damage to the camshaft, etc.

@chevman88 He usually lets calls go to voicemail if it's a number he doesn't recognize. Be sure to leave a detailed message and call back number. He is usually quite prompt in communicating.

@chevman88 This is awesome! The L8T mated to the 10 speed will be amazing. I can't wait to hear about the driving impressions once the tune is honed in. If you want insight from someone who has done numerous L8T swaps and can tune them with ease, reach out to Kevin at Big Dog Tuning...
