cheap tool for pulling the rear axle bearings without damaging the speed sensor.

Thanks for the info on the tool. My rear bearings seem fine and no leaks but at 320000 miles , I'd say it's about time to replace them.

    4wd not working 2002 Tahoe

You might try to pull the TREC fuse and unhook the battery for like a whole overnight. That should be enough to drain down the TCCM or whatever circuitry it is that needs to reset. Then stick in the TREC fuse (30 AMP) and hook up the battery and see if it starts acting normal but like these...

    Service 4WD

So installed the new unmolested encoder motor and now it’s fully repaired! The new encoder motor was set to neutral. I selected 2wd and it now feels correct. Lesson learned- check the trec fuse first!!!

    Service 4WD

I found the issue. The TREC fuse was blown - i noticed it was a 20 Amp installed , not a 30 Amp like it should have been. I pulled the battery connections, replaced it with a 30A fuse and after a day of no battery connected I hooked it back up. The selector switch LEDs work now and it showed up...

    Service 4WD

Ok thanks that's for sure a problem as I did not realize there was a timing mark on that gear. I'll set that in the encoder motor to neutral and adjust the spline to match it, then put it back in and see how that helps ( if any) . Hopefully from there it will shift into 2WD so I can at least...

    Service 4WD

I took the encoder motor out and disassembled it to parade rest ( all the way - the gearhead, the encoder) cleaned it out , cleansed the plastic disc with carb cleaner ( trans fluid was in it) put it back together and it seems to be working fine now so I don't think its my encoder motor. I can...

How cold is it where you are today?

-8 degrees in Colorado Springs. Windy as well. My 2001 Yukon XL made it about 5 miles normal temperature then went to the red-zone. I pulled it into a 7-11, turned it off and let it sit. The temp gauge moved back to normal temp after about ten minutes then it was fine. I can only assume that the...

    Service 4WD

Its been in the single digits here in Colorado Springs (cold). My 2003 Tahoe was slipping up the drive in the snow (2wd) so I attempted to put in from 2WD to 4WD and the "Service 4WD" came on. I replaced the encoder motor about two years ago but I also noticed that the LED's on the switch were...

    Transfer case assembly fricka frack!

You can replace the T-case without removing the torsion cross-member. It is easier with two people (and your tongue sticking out to the left ;).

2006 Yukon possessed by the devil does whatever it wants

Hope you got the vets' truck right? I had a similar issue - my 2001 Yukon XL was possessed with weird fault codes that kept changing. The PCM was also humming like crazy and it turned out to be the bolt was loose at Ground Zone 3 at the Front Engine Block. I also moved/replaced the ground strap...

    2011 Chevy Suburban Vibration HELP!!!

Front wheel bearings may be loose or wearing out if going downhill and not putting your foot on the accelerator is when you feel the vibration. ~$160 each.

    Vibration at 70mph

So I put new tires (Toyo 265/70R/16) on the 2003 Tahoe and of course balanced them. The transfer case needed a new encoder motor and now it shifts correctly. The u-joints are all new. I still have a vibration that feels like its from under the seat ( t-case area) at 70 + and with some time it...

Ha - ya but no.. scitoo autoparts

    Vibration at 70mph

FIXED. Replacing the encoder motor fixed the issue with the transfer case but once 4X4 was repaired there was still some noise from the from driver corner. In dealing with that I replaced both the hub assemblies and put in fresh disk pads since I was already there. Now the transfer case shifts...
