The HVAC system has actuators that control the hot/cold and inside/outside air that go bad and can cause the battery to go dead. They have power on them even with the ignition switch off. Just had that problem on my wife's Impala. Bad design from GM.
You can change from a 70 to a 75 aspect ratio tire on the 16" rim and it will be real close if not exact in diameter to the 17's. Those wheels did come on the 04-06 Yukons and XL's but mosly see them on the trucks.
