I used a router i had but have never used. Wasnt the cleanest cut but worked. I think the box on my XL is not as deep as the ones on Tahoes as the sub would not go flush even after i trimmed it. I might need to come back at a later day and fill in the gap.
Just installed the Kicker today! Some trimming of the stock box and new screw holes is all it takes although mine didn't fit as flush as the 3 pics on Amazon. Maybe the Tahoe/Yukon box is deeper than the XL/Suburban one.
Yes! The only thing that has been changed is the head unit to Kenwood. Maybe the box is a little deeper on Tahoe's/Yukons and thats why mine wouldn't fit flush even after trimming.
Factory! Just cut the ends off the existing factory sub wires and attached to the new one. Still need to tweek the audio settings on my Kenwood aftermarket head unit and i also might have a dead speaker in the passanger door as it seems like i hear something weird over on that side.
Just replaced mine today with this: KICKER
Key on the customer images and you can see it itstalled in the box, although even with trimming i couldn't get it to fit flush like they did. Sounds great.
I just did this today on my 02 yukon xl today. Same sub you bought! I did replace my head unit a few years ago with a Kenwood, but haven't replaced any of the other speakers. You do have to do some trimming on the box and it still didn't fit perfect but it works, and sounds a whole lot better.
I did this a few months ago to my 02 Yukon XL. Hairdryer, strong fishing string, and bug & tar. Worked great and too me, looks so much better. Wasn't planning on debadging but after i got through with the molding, kept on going.
My wife's '03 Burb does the same thing. Its worst when on an incline like our driveway is on our house since 2006. When it did this, i would coast it out of the driveway to level ground and put a few gallons in the tank. It would take a little bit, but would finally start. Yeap, sounds just like...
I just edited my previous post on the mechanics time. I mean't to put 45 minutes instead of 90. Although i payed, i know your great info will help others in saving some money.
Damn, OUCH!!!!!
The only thing similar is the amount of time. My mechanic charged 45 minutes labor ($65.25). On the parts, it says "Replacement Instrument Cluster" @ $308.95 so i figure with 100% markup it was really $150 bucks.
Yeap, just had this done on wife's 03 Suburban. Weird thing is speedo worked fine, it was the other gauges that were screwing up. 100,000+ miles so $400 bucks later, its fixed.
