Not much to share at this point, the service department is telling me they called the tech support group and they were told the clutches in the transfer case have been noted as being too tight, and advised me to drive the vehicle in 4H for a "few hundred miles" and see if the problem goes away.

Does this sound right?

I would think that would be rough on the tires on dry pavement. Wish you the best in getting it fixed in a timely manner.

Thats sort of my concern as well...i can't imagine several hundred miles on dry pavement in 4H on 22'' wheels.

Sounds like they are clueless. That's the main problem with these dealers service departments on most all of our issues.

A quick scan of the Transfer Case Control Module would have indicated a stored code since the warning message came up. That would have been a starting point.

So I picked up the truck and the light is in fact out. They told me it wasn't the clutches in the transfer case, rather a connector that wasn't all the way tight from the factory that had worked it's way loose. They reinstalled the connection and say it's fine now. I'm not totally confident at this point but really love the truck and I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Sounds like you might need to look for another dealer. Not sure about their competence level.

I have an 03 Tahoe z71. I replaced my Trans myself and now my service 4x4 message comes on every time I start it. The lights on the switch will light up really fast like normal then they will go away and don't come back on with no response of any buttons after that along with no lights being on. I took the transfer case motor off the tcase when I had it out if the truck and now it won't move at all forced with a screw driver or whatever I try even when I plug it back in to get the car electrical to move it no response with dead lights on the switch. I can't move that nipple thing on the tcase to the right position to put the motor on it either. I'm assuming the tcase is in 4lo? I dont know. It's annoying to have to press the fuel info button on the steering wheel everything the vehicle is started and I go off-roading a lot and 4x4 is a must. Please help.

Same thing happened to my 2015 SLT with 250 miles. Took it to the dealer....they claim the 4WD had to be re-calibrated after they did the transfer case recall programming. The light has not come back on since. hope this helps

2015?

---------- Post added at 08:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:51 PM ----------

In your gm owner center you will find this message:
Recall Title:

UNWANTED TRANSFER CASE SHIFT TO NEUTRAL

Recall Description:

General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2014 model year Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, and 2015 model year Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe and GMC Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with Automatic Transfer Case (Option Code NQH). Some of these vehicles have a condition in which an electric signal short may cause the active transfer case to switch to neutral without operator input. The transfer case mode selection knob would still indicate the last selected drive mode, and the driver will not have any feedback that the transfer case is in neutral.

Safety Risk Description:

If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is in motion, the customer would experience loss of motive power, which could increase the risk of a crash. If the vehicle is parked, the vehicle could exhibit unintended motion if the parking brake is not set, which could also increase the risk of a crash.

Repair Description:

Dealers will re-program software in the Transfer Case Control Module.

Status:*INCOMPLETE

I noticed that when I bought my Tahoe that they did the transmission recall. They put a sticker in the engine compartment, verifying the recall. Just an FYI.

I have a 2015, given it was in the shop last week I would have assumed they would have done the ref lash or whatever to the transfer case. I'll look for the sticker as indicated.

The sales manager has been great, he's actually sending someone with a loaner to my office tomorrow to pick up the truck and leave me the loaner to reduce my inconvenience of driving to him. Can't ask for much more than that.

That's how service should be on a $60K+ vehicle.

They are working with GM engineering at this point and will let me know. As promised a driver showed up at my office today to swap my truck for a loaner, a LTZ Tahoe same color as mine as a loaner so nothing to complain about at this point. Really impressed with the service.
