Morimoto XB fogs or spyder auto

I have the Morimoto on my 08 Silverado and love them. The color matches my 5500k HID retrofits. Nice white bright light. They’re fogs so they’re not supposed to shine a long distance, they work great for their intended purpose, lighting up the lower area below my low beams. I say if you can use fog lights as high beams then they won’t do well in the fog, not to nitpick @Doubeleive but I don’t see why you want them to do that. Low beams themselves actually shine too high in the fog, and we get a lot of it here. If I hit my highs I can’t see shit in fog.

it's just my preference in the color spectrum anything under 6k looks yellow to me, I have 8k hids in the yukon which are not bi-xenon so I only have low beams, I have the fogs aimed a bit high the combination works out well for me 6k+8k, I went to Hid's a long.... time ago so when I drive anything else with standard bulbs it's just ugh, part of it is probably my vision in low light I can't see that well, with bright light I can see pretty good.
here is a picture of the ceiling light in my office both lamps are 100w (output) the one pointing left is LED (looks yellowish to me) the one pointing right is fluorescent and looks more white, I can see better on the right side the left side not so much it looks more dim

Hmmm. 8k is generally more blue. 5500k is the purest white. Pretty much all the manufacturers state this. From VLed:


5500K = PURE WHITE
As seen on the graph, 5500 kelvin is the purest WHITE color temperature available. There is no yellow or blue tint to the light output. It's a very neutral tone wich blends well with other colors.


As for 8k:

“Also, 8,000k and 10,000k versions aren’t popular because nighttime visibility degrades substantially as the light goes into the blue spectrum. Blue lights are also reserved for emergency vehicles only and having them on your car is an invitation to get pulled over. So because of decreased light output and increased illegality, market demand just isn’t there for 8K and 10K bulbs.”

I guess it’s possible that wherever you buy your lights from doesn’t measure them very well or maybe your eyes see the spectrum different but 8k isn’t the best color to be lighting the road. Or maybe you’re just lmao.

I probably am weird this is a pretty good example of how my eyes see color, even though my hid's are 8k there 55w so they probably are washed out a little more into the white spectrum, anything under 6k just has a yellow tint to me.

That is a different rating of K based on the color of light being seen in the sky or some weird action like that...i remember it from way back when when dealing with aquariums. You bulb picture is much more accurate


but 8K is too blue...you've lost lumen and lux at that point

Oh it’s right. You can look all over the net and it’s the same. 5500k has always been the closest to pure white. 8000k is noticeably blue-ish. 10000k is bluer. My 5500k bi-xenon HID are white as white can be. Look at the spectrums at HID World, VLed, Morimoto, TRS, etc. The color of sunlight is actually 5800k which is the temperature which our eyes have adapted to and which appears as the brightest to humans. Above or below that is dimmer to our eyes although we can’t tell the diff between 5500 and 5800k. Here’s a great video that explains it, from HID World.

But don’t try convincing us that that’s whiter or brighter than 5500k. Your argument goes against all the research and science out there. i'm not, i'm just saying when I look at 5500k I see a yellow tint to it I guess it's just me, for whatever reason I can see better with a slight blue spectrum which appears to be white to me, my eyes aren't normal I shouldn't be able to see normal, I have 2 problems with my eyes one is they are to deep and I forget what the problem is but both of those negatives cancel each other out and I can see at least that's what the eye doctor told me kind of weird but true.

if anything, 5500K will have a touch of green in it..... my old HIS retro was 5500k and compared to OEM setups at 4300k they had a slight green tint to them...but i dont think my yellow fogs were helping the situation

were those in projectors? sometimes the projectors will throw some fringe colors around the edges

Yeah was in a Morimoto MH1 series projector. I cant fault the bulbs 100% though, I was still running some old ass DDM ones and their true output level is....well questionable. Up against walls and running around without fogs and they looked fine. I also had actual yellow bulbs for fogs...full on ricer style but they worked awesome in the rain.

My XB fogs claim they are being delivered today, but i will believe it when I see it.

They are filling the entire width of that cul de sac from curb to curb with me just barely pulling into the starts of the flare out. The intensity is great, I can actually tell they are on as opposed to the stock halogens that appeared to just light up for show.

Those look good, just like the ones I put on my Silverado. Good coverage for the fogs, nice white light.

Yeah its pretty good. I was honestly hoping for a little more width but this works very nicely. With the headlights on they are definitely wider then that, so thats good. All thats really doing is fueling my lust to make my retrofit happen much sooner. I miss that mod the most from my Sierra.

There's a little bit of an upturn there where the street forms towards the circle but its the flattest spot that was close to my house that I felt like driving too.
