    Hello,
New owner of an 02' Yukon XL. Darn near excellent condition for an '02 but the dash is ugly.
The beige paint is peeling off. Is this normal? How difficult is it to remove the panels to do a re-spray?
    Thanks,
    Lew

Somewhat normal. I've never taken the dash top off, but it doesn't look too bad of a job.

I believe LMC truck sells replacement dashes that are pre-painted. I'm currently getting my sunroof shade re-done tomorrow and am going to see what it'd cost to have a guy come out and do the dash too. I'll let you know.

@Rocket Man did his 02 Denali dash. It's detailed in his build thread.

    Thanks @Tonyrodz.
@Lew Schiller - I had the dash guy call me yesterday. $300 for him to do it all. $200 if I brought him the dash. Apparently, there's a good amount of work involved to sand away the old stuff, prep and shoot with new vinyl paint. I'm going to go with a dashmat in the interim and then probably go LMC.

I used SEM primer and paint on mine about 6 months ago and it seems to be holding up fine. I took it off, sanded it, prepped it, primed it, and painted it. It came out great and I no longer have my wife looking at that nasty peeling on her side.

And it only cost me about $30 in supplies.

Interesting that it peeled more on the passenger side as that's what mine is doing as well. The process seems intuitive..I read Rocket Man's write up..but unless I missed it he didn't go deeply in to the removal of the dash top - more about prep and paint.

Oh - and yeah - for $300 or even $200 there are other things that I'd do first. Not that I think either is excessive to have somebody do the work

There’s a video of a guy on YT that shows him removing the dash from his Silverado. I’ll try to find it. Doesn’t look that bad.

Removing the dash is pretty easy, there's plenty of how-to's out there. I removed the old paint with denatured alcohol and Scotch Brite pads in an hour or two. Then just use SEM adhesion promoter and SEM paint to match; I got my supplies at a local automotive paint store. All told it can be done in an afternoon for about $40 in materials. BTW don't sand it or it will remove the texture and look like crap. The old paint comes off easily.
