4) I've suspected fuel pump as it's a little noisy, and it failed/was replaced about 8 years/10-15k miles ago.
Should add that since I cleaned up the battery cable connectors (Only done last about two years ago) and replaced the positive battery bolt the fuel pump is quieter and doesn't sound like it's about to fail. Also cleaned up the grounds on the passenger frame rail at the same time, but I think the positive battery cable and new bolt made the difference as it was pretty corroded.

I'm guessing you don't have a big silver box there?
I found a sticker on the floor of the truck after I'd been looking at that thing so I took a pic of it.

Seems the silver module to the left/above the brake pedal is a transfer case shift control. GM 15740507. It has to be OEM the way it's wired into the loom.
"This is a module, trfer case shift cont, for Chevrolet Trucks, and GMC Trucks automobiles. It fits for 27 General Motors vehicles which were sold in the U.S. in 1996."

Anyone know what it actually does?

For a 1998 with the push-button transfer case, it does this...

On my 98 truck with the push-button selector case, the module is up above the parking brake and not at the steering shaft. Guess they moved it.

My 98 Tahoe has the manual selector transfer case and doesn’t have the module.
