re gearing question

ok so i have a 98 tahoe with a G80 and 3.42. my main question is what gears do you change when re gearing? i dont plan on doing it my self at all but i would like to know how it works. also what would the best gearing be? i want to run 35s or 37 at some point but now i have 33s. i was thinking 4.88

You change the ring and pinion gears.

You can use that chart, find your RPMs with the stock tire/gearing, then find the new tire size and move over till you his a green number close to the first number you found. Then look at the top and it'll tel you what gears you need to run to keep the stock feel.

35 - 4.56 gears
37 - 4.88 gears

I run 35s and wish I had 4.88, I run 4.56. The change is rather minimal but I'm left wanting more on the suburban

i was thinking the 4.88. i have 33s now and will for another 4-5 years (maybe). Sunlit, i cant look at that... it just hurts. i was looking at the chart in on the sticky

actually now that i look at it its not all that confusing. i looked at it at about midnight last night when i was out of it :sleepy10:

i think it is a great tool once someone understands it.

don't think it incorporates the gear venders unit preset numbers wise but you can still enter them manually.

So the way I have it now with 33s and 3.42 gears will that hurt my gas mileage? Because I use about 1/4 tank or just a little less than that a day
