Yeah thanks. I won't be doing anything until I'm off the warranty as in turning off the thing. I'll check to see if it was only on one side. So pretty much there is nothing gm will do for it?
Gas mileage go down a bit once off?

Regarding gas mileage effect, I haven't noticed much difference in mileage with the AFM turned off and like I said previously the vehicle runs better and essentially no oil consumption between oil changes now.

So it used a qt in about 700 miles. They are going to replace the pistons and rings next week. Is there anything else I should push for while I am still under warranty? Will they extend the warranty because they had to do this work?

Warranty won't be extended. Service dept may warrant the parts/labor they install for a set amount of time but it will not affect your vehicle or powertrain warranty.
If they are doing that much of a teardown be darn sure to get a reciept....thats a lot of parts.
Do they have an engine shop in house? May want to find out if they are going to send the block off to get machined/honed or the heads to get resurfaced.
Thats got to be so much more expensive for them compared to putting in a new longblock...thats basically a total rebuild. Pistons are last to come out of a bare block besides the crank.

Ok so my experience with the 5.3L and oil consumption ( around 1 qt between oil changes) is the PVC. The problem is that the aftermarket ones come with a tiny hole and no stopper inside. Do not buy this one because your engine will suck oil into the intake manifold and slowly you'll lose oil. If it's the factory PVC the stopper is worn out and allowing oil to pass by causing the oil lose. Replace it with a OEM one which means that more than likely you will have to replace the valve cover on the drivers side because the PVC is built into the cover and cannot be removed.
