Long or short block?

Wow, i didn't think that question was even possible. OK, a short block is the just the block, crank, pistons and rods all assembled, you install the heads, cam, lifters, timing set.......etc. A long block is a complete engine minus all of the accessory drives, intake, and sometimes oil pan because they are used from your current engine.

I'm not sure who came up with the terminology but livingez_123 is right.
Long block vs. short block vs. turn key engine is a description of the state of engine assembly.

Far different than small block vs. big block.
Incase you don't know you should have a small block 5.7L

Im not as stupid about mechanics as livingez_123 just made me look, im just looking for a exchange motor and there were two options, one long block and one short block. I just didn't know the difference, but now i do thanks
