Limp mode? Starting in 2nd? TC locking in 1st?

This has been happening for a while now. If I drop the trans into 1st and hammer the throttle, it almost IMMEDIATELY feels like it either shifts to 2nd (but doesn't feel like a shift), the TC locks up, or goes into limp mode. Acceleration is slow until it gets past a certain RPM. ALSO, if I have the trans in 2nd, it will start off in 2nd. Is this a solenoid issue? It's very annoying at times.

Also have a whine when it shifts from 1st to 2nd. Sounds like that typical power steering whine, but when the transmission shifts, making me think it's a pump. Does the pump inside the transmission make the same noise, and could this be the cause to everything else?
