How do you disconnect wiring bulkhead connector on passenger side?

I'm trying to remove my complete engine/tranny wiring harness to modify for an LSx swap and I'm stuck on the bulkhead connector on the firewall. It has two tabs on the side, but doesn't come apart when I separate and I'm afraid of breaking. Anybody know the trick? It doesn't appear to come apart from the inside either.
