99 Tahoe brake lights

I have a 99 Tahoe, just replaced brake switch. Now my breaks on light up at the begining of the brake pedal throw. They stop illuminating after an inch of movement on brake pedal. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

installed in improper position perhaps.

It positions itself due to the mounting clip. At least I am pretty sure.

and the hole went over the pin on the pedal with the connector facing up correct?
