Which is better from a drivetrain standpoint? The '92-'95 engines have 200HP and 310TQ while the '96-'99 engines have 255HP and 330TQ. Obviously, looking at the stock output, the '96-'99's are superior. But what about longevity, ease of working on, fuel economy, performance potential, cost to modify, etc?

well in my experience its easier and cheaper to mod the 92-95, yes the 96-99 will get more output per mod by what i have noticed.

Me too.

My 1995 has 192k on it and still running strong. It is not uncommon to get well over 200k in both engines though. As far as working on, the TBI wins that. Vortecs are a ***** to work on IMO. Both have their strong suits and both have their weak points. It all depends on what you will use it for. Mine works well for me, but I do wish it had a little more power. Soon to come though haha

+1

I picked up a 95 just because of the simplicity to work on the engine. Some of the parts are also cheaper.

The TBI engines dont hold a candle to Vortec's

Vortec Harder to work on ??, not if you understand the system.:)

Both TBI and vortec are very reliable,

The Vortec's run smoother and soooo much stronger.

Wish my 95 had a Vortec, but if i had my choice it would be a Gen III LS style engine, now your talking!!
