02 Yukon making awful noise!!
Okay so now transfer case is in...no more horrible noise. But when we tested 4wd my service 4wd came on and its now stuck in 4 hi. I kept the motor part from my other case so that I wouldn't have to flash it. Before all of this, even making noise it would go through all gears. Now I'm stuck in 4...- Malibu907

Pulled the fill plug before the drain plug and couldnt get the drain plug off. Ill need to enlist some assistance there. It doesn't sound like gravel tumbling but close mine has a thump along with it. It is definitely the transfer case and I am draining the fluid today. This is kinda mind boggling. I'm surprised that the tranny shop automatically went to the tranny when the tranny isn't making noise at all. I'm a...- Malibu907

We did literally run next to it. I thought it was the e brake also. We finally jacked up the back end and it is most definitely the transfer case- Malibu907

02 Yukon making awful noise!!
It is 4x4...with the z71 package and auto 4x4 sensing. I have never used the 4wd. I'm hoping and praying its not the tranny. Actually it just doesn't sit right with me that its the tranny. I feel like its something else. In inspecting the u joints and driveline in the morning.- Malibu907

02 Yukon making awful noise!!
Long story short...my yukon started making a metal thumping sound. Went to tranny shop and he insists its the planetary gears just by hearing it. Not test driving it...nothing. It doesn't slip, miss, no issues until this weird sound occurred and even with the noise it shifts fine, doesnt change...- Malibu907

02 Yukon z71...HELP?
So here it goes...just did a 3000mi trip with my 02 Yukon and as soon as i get home it starts making an awful noise! Sounds like a brake dragging and a funny knock with each wheel spin. Like metal on metal. I've been around cars, mechanics..etc my entire life and I have never heard this noise...- Malibu907
