    10 Ply or LT Tires

10 plys will ride rougher than 8 ply. Most don't need 10 ply, but my last two trucks had 10 plys on em and I never had a flat, and that includes alot of driving through construction sites with nails and all sorts of debris. 10 plys handle better because of the stiff sidewall.

Off road tire for 22 in rim

Don't know if you've already got em or not but I wouldn't buy 22's if I was wanting to go off road. 33's are probably as small as you can go. Should be some a/t's available.

Welcome to the site, nice truck. Is that dark dash trim factory or aftermarket? I like it.

    How long do Bilstein's last?

Just wondering how long the Bilstein 5100's will feel like new? What kind of mileage can you get with easy driving out of these?

    Lift Keys, 2" Spacers, 33s on 20s

I don't know why someone would want to belittle someone else's ride on here. So what if you don't like the rims or whatever else about a particular truck. The guy got some new stuff and he likes it, cut him some slack. Most people that take their trucks offroad don't want to spend $1000 on rims...

So I lied about my wheels..

I like it, looks kind of "modern vintage", like the old cragers on muscle cars, but much cooler.

    Great information

Anytime I post a question to a problem I always try to follow up with what repairs were made and what the final solution was. Its important to title the threads properly so that we build a sort of database of problems and fixes for future readers. Thats probably the #1 reason most people join...

    Roof Rack Crossbars

I kind of figured that was how it was done but just wanted to make sure before I started breaking, I mean, taking stuff apart. I got a steal on a used Yakima Megawarrior cargo basket, but it sits too high if I attach it to the top of the rails. I want to slide the rails off and then mount the...

    Roof Rack Crossbars

Hey fellas, don't beat me up with the "search forum" comments cause I did for a whole 10 minutes and couldn't find the answer. How do you get the crossbars off of the LS/LT roof rack? :Insane:

    Wheel question

The stock wheels are 16x7. Technically thats too narrow for a 285 or wider tire. Many people put 285's on them anyway, but it is not recommended by the tire manufacturer and will probably not wear as well as the proper rim width. Look up the tech specs on the tire's website and it will give you...

    Problem with hard left turn.

I'm bumping this cause mine does the same thing. There's not really a lot of mechanics or techs on this forum. I've had better luck with tech stuff on GM-Trucks.com, but haven't asked about this yet. I think I've got a bearing thats ate up in my front diff so I had just attributed it to that. Is...

    01 tahoe z71

Take it to a mechanic. Have em pull the drain plugs on your front and rear diffs and transfer case. You might find something in there you don't like(rebuilt diff or t-case, $1200). Also, test the 4wd extensively. Find a gravel parking lot or somewhere you can put it in 4wd and drive it around...

The coats should be misted on very light and you should wait about 10 minutes between each, building the color as you go until its one solid color.

    Front diff replacement

Thanks for your help. This site doesn't have many people that offer tech advice. Maybe you can work out some kind of deal. Are you a tech or mechanic? Forgot to ask one more thing: Do you get a "Service 4wd" light if the encoder is dead?

    Front diff replacement

Speaking of big chunks, thats what I found when I did the fluid. A 1/8"x3/16" chunk of metal and a ton of metal shavings. Fluid was kind of milky silverish color at first then became normal after about half had poured out. I've heard that means it had water in it. I'm just trying to fix cheapest...

    Front diff replacement

I've driven the truck quite a bit over the past week trying to figure out what's going on. I've got a 2002 Auto 4wd Tahoe, w/110,000 on it. It seems like maybe the 4wd is not engaging all of the way when I turn it on and maybe not disengaging all of the way when I turn it off. I'm getting a...

Help me get rid of rattles

Hey fellas! I'm trying to go through my truck and get rid of the rattles. I had my dash apart replacing the ambient light sensor and now after putting it back together it seems to have a few rattles. Are there any products like a spray or roll on sound deadener or any other tricks that can help...

    crankin torsion bars

2" wheel spacers will make it more likely to rub. 2" rear coil spacers will make it too tall in the back. At the most 1" spacers on wheels and probably no spacers on rear coils if you want it to sit level without cranking the torsion bars all of the way. Just jack up the front to where you think...

    SHould I Buy It.

Take it somewhere and pull the drain plugs. I just bought one and did my diff fluid this weekend. The front diff's magnetic drain plug had a nice sized chunk of metal stuck to it along with a ton of shavings. The front diff will sometimes leak from either end at the output shaft. If it's leaky...

    Front diff replacement

Hey guys whassup? Looks like I'm in the market for a front diff. I'm wondering how hard this is to replace yourself? I'm also wondering if I can replace it with a 3/4 ton unit? Wouldn't be so bad if I could upgrade to a heavier duty part. Thanks for the help...

Groaning and vibration from the front diff or axles only in 4wd

Changed my diff fluid today. Front diff is probably F'ed. Drain plug had a chunk of metal along with alot of metal shavings. My brother, who is a parts manager at a local dealership, told me that they don't rebuild these, they just replace with a used part. ADVICE: If you're looking at a used...
