We bought my wife a 09 tahoe with 3.08s.I really really dis-like the gears. I have 285/45/22 on it and want to know if I should go 3.73 or 4.11? It is a 6 speed 5.3 and we do a 50/50 mix of driving.

3.08's, that's rough. It must practically idle at 70mph! 3.42's should give you about 2,000 rpm @80 mph, especially with the slightly larger wheel diameter you have over stock. I think 3.73 would be a good trade off, although I'm sure 4.10 for city driving would really pep it up. You would probably be running 2700 RPM or so @ 80 mph highway driving. I guess it depends on your preference... Good seat of the pants feeling when driving around town, or slightly better mileage when cruisin'

Good luck.

If your towing, having lowers gear would be beneficial, if your driving mostly solo, I wouldn't bother.
Dropping to lower gears will affect your mileage, 342's, 373's would be ok, I would NOT go 411's.

With the 6 speed transmission 3.42 are the same as 4.10. So going with that high of a gear is not beneficial unless you are going to be doing a lot of off roading.

The information about the gearing is around here somewhere.

One thing you should do is take a look at a transmission + rear gear calculator as one found here:

http://chevellestuff.net/tools/rpm_calculator.htm

GM 6-Speed 6L80 MYC Hydra-Matic Automatic Transmission (Standard Typical tranny on a 2014)

First: 4.03
Second: 2.36
Third: 1.53
Fourth: 1.15
Fifth: 0.85
Sixth: 0.67
Reverse: 3.06

You can see the final input / speed here in the attached photo.
3.08 vs 3.73 gears + 33" tire

Note: This does not take into account tranny slippage etc so your real world values may be off +/- ~100-200rpm
Note: I changed the gear ratios and is NOT using a TH700-R4 transmission and is using the 6 speed transmission gears that come with our rigs.

Hope this helps in gearing!
