Why skip the sunroof?

I never would open it up..I just like leave the climate control on all time. I just set it at 72 and forget it. I thought about getting a Tahoe with a sunroof even though I would probably never use it but decided in the end not to get it.

Just today my neighbors 2010 Expedition was soaked with water from the sunroof. I told him it was probably because the drains were clogged..We got over 7 inches of rain overnight. He never knew to check the drains...Especially before the rainy season which started in the beginning of May.

In my neck of the woods there all landscapers all over the place every day everywhere you go..They are in every condo complex, mall, supermarket parking lot and even on surface streets cutting the grass in the median..This is all year long..The are blowing the debris everywhere..I actually see fistfights after the landscapers blew debris all over vehicles..So the sunroof drains probably have some debris in them.

Curious how you feel about all of the recalls and initial issues these rigs were plagued with? Or were you lucky with none of those issues

My early 2015 Tahoe (bought May 2014) had 9 recalls, led flicker, ac condenser failure, AFM/V-4 rumble, driver seat shift, and lane departure module failure.

Still a great vehicle, but the first 2yrs were rather annoying. All those issues seem to be non-existent on my current '17 Burb....except the lane departure module failure. And the rear hatch auto-lift struts failed

It is just a hit and miss..A lot of the early 2015's had those issues you had but not all..Mine was a late build 2016 [probably right before the 2017's] which probably helped.

Very glad you got all your issues worked out!!!!

Would just like to add we have an 04 yukon since new and it never came to mind about why we skipped the sunroof all these years. It honestly depends on the weather. We have a 16 SLT and I’m pretty sure I can count with one hand how many times its been open.

Not opting for a Denali on the other hand, thats something I’ve always wished my dad went for on both cars. Maybe next time.

Bought in October 2016..Build date was in August 2016..Has the Luxury Package but no sunroof..When I went looking for a Tahoe I specifically looked at Tahoe's with no sunroof.

So far just oil changes [0W20 Mobil 1 & AC Delco filters] every 5K miles. OLM is around 20% at that point..Oil is still full at 5K miles with a dark amber look..Get around 24.5 miles per gallon if it is all highway and if traffic keeps constantly moving [which is very rare] and cruise control on at around 74 MPH. Only use 87 regular fuel..Mostly Exxon-Mobil fuel..Never checked surface street mileage..In my neck the woods it is almost 24/7 gridlock..Cabin Filter was changed out at 25K miles.

Interior..The seats have good back support for my long trips. Interior is nice and quiet at any speed. Climate control is constantly on and keeps perfect temperature..The layout of the Dash is perfect IMHO.

Ride&Handling..Rides very good IMHO. Handles very well in all kinds of nasty weather.

Just had it serviced yesterday at the dealer as I am going on a long trip this Monday..They changed the oil and rotated the tires..Lately I was having a small vibration at 80 MPH and higher..The dealer did a Road Forced Balance and so far do not notice any more vibration..I had it up to 84 MPH today for a short before the monsoon rain.

I still have the original Continental Tires on it..Will eventually change over to Michelin Defenders..The dealer said the brakes still have over 50% left..I figured with all the traffic I sit in it would be a lot lower.

If you have kids you DEFINITELY need a Suburban..When the third row of seats are up there is very little room for your gear..Especially if you over pack like I do..I always hear Tahoe people say I should have bought a Suburban but have not heard Suburban people say I should have bought a Tahoe..The third row seat is only good for a 5 year old or less..For anyone else it is very uncomfortable.

The AFM is still in play..Does not bother me at all..I have not heard of any issues with the AFM on the 2015 plus 5.3 or 6.2's yet..I have been in a few 2015 Livery Suburban's with over 150K miles and all drivers said the AFM has been a non issue.

My dealer [Shumacher Chevrolet GMC Buick] has never tried to upsell me anything..I thought for sure they were going to try to talk me into injector cleaning or some kind of other Wallet Flushing Service.

Great to hear your report. Sorry, I missed if you told us; but, which engine do you have?

I have a 2005 K2500 Yukon with 6.0L. Thinking about trading, and am wondering what mileage I could expect of the new 6.2L. Still prefer the 4X4, but really do not need it any longer. So, the 5.3L is an option as well. Thanks.

My 2016 has 19,5XX miles on it, just got it back from the dealer for Water Pump Replacement.

The back end rattles and squeaks so bad you would think I'm driving an '85 S-10 Blazer.

I'm a life long GM person and I've had several Tahoe's, I am not impressed with this one thus far, I am about ready to dump it.

I had a 2005 Esky with the 6.0

that thing was a rocket. very fun to drive. very thirsty

by comparison, the 5.3 and 6 speed in my 2015 were just as good. not quite the same low end, but the top in for the 5.3 screams along nicely. and the 15-17mpg mixed driving, and a solid 22-24 mpg highway...the 6.0 couldn't even dream of those numbers. think 14mpg is the best I ever cracked with it.

my new 2017 is even peppier than the 2015 was.

The new 6.2 is pretty reasonable on mpg. I get 15.5-17mpg around town. I’m pretty lead footed too.

The few people i know decided against a Sunroof because they install Radios -which require "Roof Real estate"
Some are Volunteer Fire/EMS and radio operators... so with that comes lots of Antennas.

Sunroof would just get in the way.

I have your 'sister' vehicle, a '16 GMC Yukon SLT with 34K miles on it. Bought used at just over 31K miles and so far am thrilled with it. Had an '03 XL for 11 years, then a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a Hemi engine - was in the shop at least once every 2 - 3 months with engine issues. Ran GREAT when AFM was enabled but stuttered up minor inclines on all 8 cylinders; think GM is bad - Chrysler is a hoot to deal with! I am happy with my Nav, I am happy with the ride, drove 13 hrs 10 mins door to door to pick our middle one up from college, MUCH less tiring for a long drive in it than my GC. Comfy, spacious, just glad to be back - grew up with Chevy and GMC trucks and just enjoy them - hubby is the gadget and sporty car fan - I like my big vehicle.

I, too, opted for no sunroof and man was it hard to find one with a bench and no sunroof. Shopped for over a year but got me from a '15 to a '16 for my patience which I think was a good thing. Stock 18" tires, would have liked 20" but not a biggy. Only changes made to the vehicle were to add cross rails to the roof, mudflaps and I replaced the red GMC labels with black - just think my white vehicle looks better with the black logos.

Sunroofs - 3 teenagers - never was a fan of them before - rubber deteriorates, pain in the neck to work on if the motors die (I keep vehicles a long time), clogged drains, but it was the teenagers that pushed it this time. I never use them as is, but the teens driving around with sunroofs open - oldest lost his roof liner from it, of course that was nothing as he then lost the engine, but that's another story. Can't tell you how many times that kid left a sunroof popped up in the rain, in my vehicle which he was driving then since the other one was toast. But the best was when our middle teen took our '04 Liberty through a car wash with the sunroof open. The youngest was in awe at the stupidity, took days in the garage with 4 fans blowing to dry the thing out. When the oldest got a new ride, NO SUNROOF! And when mom got her new ride, NO SUNROOF. I like the extra headroom even though I am only 5'4".
