2003 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 4x4 220k miles, drive it about once or twice a week.

Got a P0449 code since I bought the truck 4 months ago. I've already replaced both the vent valve solenoid and purge valve (1. the part near the top of the motor, and 2. the part by the gas tank). Code didn't go away so I ignored it for a while. Out of the blue one day it did go away but came back the next day and has remained. Is there anything else I should check before I go ahead and assume its the canister that's bad?

Also, before I replaced those two parts I had difficulty filling up the tank with gas. The pump would stop constantly unless I just barely held it. After replacement, I no longer have that problem so I've at least partially fixed the problem but the code remains.

Did you go in and clear the code? If you don`t clear it the check engine light will stay on even though you fixed the problem.

If not you can get a cheap code reader that will also clear codes for twenty dollars or the torque app on your phone and a bluetooth obd2 adapter.

Yes, I have a cheap reader that clears the code. The CEL just comes right back after running a while for the same code.

I did a little looking around and some people`s filler necks return line had rot holes causing the code. If you don`t live in the rust belt i can`t imagine that would be your problem.

I have had this same problem with my yuk for a year now , replaced the same parts , an the cel stays on an comes back if I clear it out . Although I went an got a flowmaster muffler installed , an right after they finished installing it I cranked it up an no cel , it stayed off for 2 months , an now is back on with a P0446 & P0442 . I cleared them again gonna see what happens this time .

I'm down south so rust isn't much of an issue. Yesterday I filled it up with gas and it was back to stopping constantly unless I just barely held the gas pump. Would a junked canister do that or could the evap vent solenoid (that I already replaced) be a faulty part?

Dude, you need to stop. Thats not the way SES lights work. Typically TWO drive cycles with no fault detected will turn the light off.

Lighten up francis, I had to go in and shut the light off when i had an issue with the evap so i need not stop trying to help someone with my experience in this matter. It`s not like i told him it would be ok to run his engine with no oil lol. And don`t call me dude, I don`t ride a horse, Thanks.
