Tuner question

Hello,

I have a 2016 Chevy Tahoe LT (6 spd tranny) and I was thinking about getting a tune for it... Here is my question:

Would I be better off just getting a "canned" tune as opposed to a custom tune? Which should I get? This truck is really for moving my family around and going to and from work (mostly in traffic). I am not particularly interested in being able to go 0-60 in XX seconds but I am interested in tuning out the AFM and having a more responsive truck.

Is the custom tune really worth it? Apart from a muffler I threw on there, my truck is completely stock. I would also like to be able to return the truck to original tune in case I have to take it to the dealer.

You can check out a Diablo tuner that connects to your ODB II port and allows to change setups on the go for either maximum power output or for maximum economy.

It can get you about +15HP and 15TQ on Perofmrance mode.

My question was more the canned tunes vs the custom tunes. Does it really give you bang for your buck?

I have had a few canned tunes and couldn't tell the difference weather they were there or not. $800 for the Diablo. Has cool features and allows you change stuff but I didn't see a difference. $400 I got a dyno tune and it's a massive difference. Only down fall can't take it off when you go back to the dealer. But mine is out of warranty long ago so I don't mind. :2cents:

When using proper tuning software and data from your vehicle, a custom tune is far superior than a canned tune.

I did the Diablo Intune 2 on my 2016 Yukon and am very happy with the results. I spent about $400 out the door locally here in South Florida.

It has several "canned" tunes loaded in it but also gives the user the option of changing transmission shift programming, adjusting fuel pressure and ignition timing, removing AFM and top speed limiter, raising the RPM limit speed, as well as many other parameters. It can also receive and store a custom tune that can be provided by other programmers independent of Diablo.

Once a tune is set up it can be stored and loaded/unloaded any time in about 5 -10 minutes. I always return to my stock OEM tune when I return to the dealer for any service. I do this primarily on the off chance that a service tech may install an updated program that would erase what was on board at the time. Once I get home from a dealer service I restore my tune that was installed before...very easy to do.

I feel that because of its flexibility in allowing programming adjustments, the InTune 2 provides a lot of bang for the buck. I can't say that it's better or not as good as others but for my use it does a good job. Admittedly, the base "canned" tune left a lot to be desired, but once I modified the several parameters to my liking my Yukon is Night and Day better than it was from the factory in terms of daily driving and over all street level performance. I have a neighbor with a '16 Tahoe LTZ that was amazed how much quicker my Yukon is than his Tahoe with no other changes. He plans in the near future to set his up like mine.

Diablo intune 2 is definitely a good option the main difference between this and Trinity programmer is the size of the a screen and more detailed interface. So yeah if you don't need extra options of a tablet Intune 2 is definitely the best bang for a back.We do have it for 2016 Tahoe, you can check it on our website: http://www.carid.com/2016-chevy-tah...-programmer-california-restrict-69411204.html

If the only mod you have is exhaust, a canned tune will be fine ... you might get another 5-10hp via a custom, depends if that is worth it to you

I've had great luck with Andy at IPF/KPE

Just my 2 cents.

Very happy with my BlackBear tune on my 04.

Very happy with my tune I had on my 08

Getting one a tune eventually for my 2016.

I can't really comment on the canned tune route but price wise I think they are fairly close. BlackBear has lifetime updates and it is matched to your vehicle. You can get an Autocal to be able to go back to stock.

Blackbears customer service has always been top notch and they've been that way since I got my first tune in 2011 (I think).

I'm not even considering anything else for my 2016.
