I was driving my 17 (88k) on the freeway the other day and it start a slight whine and slightly slipping. When to get off the exit and it popped into neutral. I dropped it into L1 and it engaged. I then moved it back to Drive and it was fine. I was driving in auto as its winter here. I pulled over into a parking lot turned it back to 2wd and it ran fine. The fluid/filter was changed about 3-4k ago.
I currently have it in the trans shop and they can't get it to replicate. They are thinking its the start of the end of the torque converter. They are going to drop the pan to see if there is metal, etc.
I was wondering if it turns out the converter is toast or the trans need rebuilt, is there recommendations for superior aftermarket replacement parts vs OEM.
My driving habits are pretty vanilla, around town but I do pull a fishing boat around the Midwest.
