Tail light removal... There are two phillips head screws per tail light to remove
http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac305/07Burb/burb/c2d00551.jpg

...Once these are out pull the tail light out. You sill have to use a little bit of persuasion still but they should come on out

Next, the harness connects just underneath the vehicle...
http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac305/07Burb/burb/d4c4a004.jpg

...just disconnect the harness and your good. Watch out for falling debris!!! :D

At this point the old tail light is out and you're ready to install the new assembly. For the most part the tail light will just plug in and you're good to go. I've heard that MOST people have no issue with the hyper blink on these G4's however there are a handful that have had the issue so I just make the resistor mod from the get go with the hopes of not having to deal with it later so before installing the light I spliced in the new resistor.

First, cut the wires on the original, gray box that comes with the light.

Next you'll want to splice in the new resistor. I got these from vleds.com as they were recommended from a few members here. Also, this is just a temporary splice for now. This weekend I plan on getting some shrink connectors to keep it free from the weather. You'll also want to zip tie your wires up in a bundle to keep them organized and out of the way (not pictured)...
http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac305/07Burb/burb/5c062b19.jpg

...from my research it doesn't matter which end go to the green wire and which end goes to the black wire. This resistor did come with Scotch-lok connectors but I chose not to use them (and several folks urged me to trash them as well:))

Securing the resistor is easy. I used the red 3M tape (very strong stuff!!)...
http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac305/07Burb/burb/05eaebd7.jpg

...and put it on the back and attached the resistor to the back of the tail
http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac305/07Burb/burb/bddc473a.jpg

Did my tests (lights, brakes, blinker,...)
http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac305/07Burb/burb/41277981.jpg

Just for grins here's a pic of one LED in and one stocker in. HUGE difference IMO
http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac305/07Burb/burb/e1e927f0.jpg

Do these same steps to the other side and...

Sorry for the crappy cell pics but it was just easier. Also, I was hoping to do this out in the light to get better pics but it's been so rainy I was too impatient to wait longer before I installed them :)

Yo Burb,

you da man, i plan on getting these next month and this helps alot. I think i will take my chances and just do a straight install with no resistor. But if I end up needing it i have your very detailed how-to that will surely make it easy for me. I've said many times before......I love the place.

Yeah, you'll probably be fine without the resistors as I've heard many members state they've had good luck with the stock ones that come with the G4's.

Overall, these lights make a HUGE difference in brake light output and they look much better as well :waytogo: You'll LOVE the change :)

Where did you buy the lights from?

Ebay from a seller named Revotec. He's got multiple sets for sale (amongst many other items mostly having to do with lights) at this link...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-08-09-CHEVY-SUBURBAN-TAHOE-YUKON-TAILLIGHTS-LED-G4-/400177459044?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d2c6f6f64

This guy is shipping from Canada so it does take about a week to get the item but comes well packaged and he ships it almost immediately (within the day of purchase). :waytogo:

 It's actually a bag phone from 1994 that I retro fitted a Kodak digital camera from 2001 to. Aren't they pretty pics??

:laughing1:

Actually, they were taken from a lovely iPhone 3g. I knew they were pretty crappy pics but I figured it was better than waiting til the weekend to post pics up if I'd used our good camera! :D

Once the Burb is washed and it's nice outside I'll take much better pics and post them up :)

Look at you, Someone buys some tail lights and suddenly they are a tail light expert...lol jus messing with you. However may i suggest taking the resistor and attaching it to the Metal body somewhere? THey get really hot when then are used for long time and may melt the plastic.

:slap: I'm no expert. Just sharing  good idea on redoing where that resistor is at, though. I'll have to do that when I resplice my wires. Maybe tonight :)

thanks yukonxl and nytahoe :High 5:

Now you just need a set of these after you get the Esky 3rd brake light in order to make averything flow.

Interesting. I'm on IE and it works for me. Here's the link: http://cdn.autoanything.com/images/products/schem/IPCW/large/ipcw_ledt-313cr.jpg

Well, the image works fine now  It wasn't earlier even when I manually input the link from the image into my browser (google chrome)

Anyhoot....I can't say I'm really fan of those. I'd rather keep my clean, body colored appliques rather than putting lighted appliques in but that's just my personal taste :waytogo:

I wasn't being serious about them. I def won't be doing it to my truck either. Still on the fence about the tail lights you have and the Esky high mount.

But, for anybody that's interested in the appliques, they are from ipcw. www.ipcw.com

I love the lights. They are an improvement over stock for sure. The only other thing I've thought about doing with them is maybe putting a light shade of tint over them. With my ride being maroon that red contrasts a little more than I like so I may do that at the same time that I get my windows tinted darker. Other than that, though, the lights looks great to me.

Here's a better pic of them in the day light after a good wash....

I hear on the red/maroon clash. My wife has a sport red tint Cobalt SS sedan. I can't stand the way the tail lights look. I've tried to get her to tint hers, but with no success. How do you think your tail lights would look on a silver birch Tahoe?

07Burb
07-26-2011, 01:51 PM
I think it'd look great. Tint always looks nice on silver colors.... :waytogo:

Oops. I meant, how do you think they'd look on my truck without the tint?

I think they'd look great not tinted as well since silver :waytogo:

I'd tint those lights too. Just a light smoke like I had on my last set in this pic:

Also, get some 28s :)

That is exactly what I was thinking right there :) I was going to have my tint guy do it at the same time he tints my windows darker.

Also, get some 28s :)

:D I don't foresee me ever rollin' on 28's. 22's or 24's are in my future, though :hands:

I think the only excuse I have for not getting those leds tails is the lack of a good set of projector headlights I can stick HIDs in. As for 28s, not me, not ever. I'm going up in height, not down. I don't want my truck to be like the Hummer/Schwarzeneger at the end of Disney's Cars movie in the offroad boot camp that's afraid to get its wheels dirty.

Jacob and Connor I was joking about the 28s, If I condoned such on these SUVs I would have got them by now.
