I added an aftermarket alarm and it acts weard sometimes. I also don't like when the oem alarm icon lights up on the dash.

I would be interested in this too. Just yesterday, while holding my keys in my hand and in the parking lot of my liquor store, I was lifting in a box with bourbon and mixer in it and the alarm button got pushed and let everyone around me know, "Hey, here I am, look at me with my liquor"! LOL! It was kind of a tight fit because I am 6'4" tall and 320 and was trying to barely open my door so I would not tap the car next to me in the parking slot. Sometimes I twist in ways I did not think I could still do. PITA!

Before anyone says it will alert me to a break in, I am in a gated area at home and I do so much shopping at Amazon, because I freakin' hate crowds, that about the only place the Tahoe is out of my sight is at the liquor store or at the grocery store where I only go at 6 a.m. to avoid crowds.

Man, that was a long winded story just to say, I am interested in this thread. Sorry!

as far as I know you cannot disable the factory alarm system it is all part of the gm passlock system, if you are having problems with it then it is likely the ignition switch or the ignition housing (hal) sensor or the passlock module. there are some ways to bypass the passlock system but you would have to google for that and see if anyone still offers any kits. This is why all the aftermarket kits are installed after the passlock system and the factory alarm is always left untouched and active it's a integrated GM proprietary system.

I know that some years of the GM key chip could be bypassed by installing a diode in the correct wire in the steering column, I saw it done, but wonder if there is a way similar to that to disable the alarm?

i just leave mine open if they want to take it IDK i just buy another one. (no one steals hybrids Parts value = Zero) as they are VIN locked

I also want to disable my alarm. I'm not worried about theft and I believe alarms don't help anyway everyone ignores them and I certainly don't want to confront a burglar for a 13 year old car. I don't want to carry the remote as this is not my primary vehicle, My wife will carry the remote as it's "Her" car. I just want to carry the key, but don't want it beeping at me. I'm good keeping the transponder key protection if I can. Is there any way to silence the alarm system?

if you only use the key and manually lock the door then the alarm does not set, if you use the door lock button then it might set the alarm I think it depends on the year. so you shouldn't have to worry about the horn honking. you can experiment how it set's by rolling down the driver door window, lock the truck
(manually-vs-with the button), then wait a minute and reach in and unlock the door from the inside and open the door, if the horn does not honk then the alarm was never set.

The problem is the wife may lock the car with the remote, then I come along and set off the alarm using my key. I wish they put a second transponder reader in the door so the proper authorized key would work. I'm hoping there is a way to program this out, but worst case I'll insert a normally open relay in the horn wiring triggered by the ignition on, so the horn can only beep if the ignition is on, but I hate to hack it like this. There should be a way to disable the alarm. A manufacturer should understand not everyone wants an alarm.
