Interesting AC Issue

Had an AC leak. Looked everywhere with my freon sniffer and couldn't find it. Finally had to bite the bullet and take to a shop. They spent two days hunting and finally found it. An AC line runs all the way to the back of the Yukon and the leak was in the line back there. Had to have the whole line replaced. But kudos to Bobby's Garage for finding and fixing it.

Just an FYI in case you have a mystery AC leak.

So, you had a sniffer and I assume that you charged refrigerant system for that sniffer. Did you check the lines to the rear a/c? I am assuming you did. Did they use a sniffer?

I tried but obviously missed those lines. They used dye.

Yea, that dye in the refrigerant and a black light, is great for finding a leak. If was the evaporator and leak could not be seen, it would be a hell of a guess but I have seen a/c dye show up at the evaporator drain hose when the leak was big enough.

Very common issue. My AC went out a few weeks after I bought it and the small dealer I bought it from wouldn't do anything. Luckily I'm an AC tech so I just blocked off the rear air lines (they have a kit for that) and works like a charm. Honestly the regular air works just fine for the entire truck up here in WI so I decided not to replace the lines. Most of the time it's just 2 of us anyway.
