Hey wondering if anyone has tried this. I have 96 4wd and i would prefer 2wd. I dont plan on doing any off roading because i live in los angeles. its all concrete out here. I plan on using my truck to race. what would it entail to remove all the 4wd parts?

All you will gain or lose I guess is weight and not a ton. I would say there is 200-250 pounds of big parts (transfer case, differential, drive shaft and CVs)

i figured with a 2wd the power goes straight from the trans to the rear end instead of passing through the transfer case. can i just remove those parts and keep the same trans or does it require some major work?

You would need a different trans and im guessing a 2wd front clip or possibly a frame.

you would eliminate a little power loss I guess getting rid of the transfer case but I would think that is minimal.

The automatic tranny is a big killer.

I have always hear about a 24% power loss in the drivetrains on our trucks. Based on that number and the dyno test I ran and what my motor is supposed to make it is about correct.

unknown at this time.
your tranny tail housing and output shaft, rear drive shaft would have to be changed out you would remove your front shaft and maybe differential partial drives shafts leaving only the outer joint that mounts thru the hub. For the t-case it is still essentially a direct mechanical connection like a manual but with parasitic drag from it bearing, seals, and lube pump. :imo: the removal of the is much less productive as switching to a manual tranny when it comes to power getting on the ground.

...in short, if you wanna 2wd drive ride just sell the 4wd and go buy a 2wd. That's an easy swap :D

could i possibly take a complete trans and drive shaft out of a 2wd and swap it out??

you have to change trans, new DS, change hubs to the 2wd ones, get a crossmember from a 2wd.

or to keep your hands clean and no sweat, buy a 2wd!
