2022 Chevy Tahoe- Numerous engine issues- Beware don’t buy these trucks - Engine light, etc

520,000 miles on my 2000 5.3 4x4. No issues, but those were simpler times.

    Electric Fan swap causing problems

I switched to electric fans on my 2003 6.0 Yukon, but swapped back due to unreliable power supply relay issues. It just was not worth the risk. The system I had used a single power supply relay for two fans. A better system would have independent power systems for each fan, that way if power...

    Electric Fan swap causing problems

I swapped out my dual electric back to belt drive fan clutch system due to power supply reliability issues. Randomly blowing the power supply to the fan in pretty dangerous to overheating, particularly in the normal 118 F days out here in the summer. I choose reliability.

mpg on my 04 5.3 Yukon

Your MPG is pretty normal. I have 2000 4x4 Tahoe, 5.3. Owned it since 40,000 miles, and now have 505,000 miles. I get about 11 - 12 MPG around town, and 15-17 MPG on long open road drives. The mileage is only 1 MPG less than when I first got the rig. No engine work to date.

    GMT900, Anyone overlanding/offroading these?

I have a 2000 Tahoe, I prefer that body style for off-roading, as you less junk hanging off the front. i have taken this rig in all sort of off-road conditions. Mud, snow, sand, and dirt. Low deserts, and high mountain passes. The short wheel base and turning radius is nice, as is the...

    Electric Fans Vs Clutch Fans

I converted my 2003 2500 Yukon to twin electric fans to try to get additional cooling for our desert conditions, as well as take some load off the engine. However, after several power supply issues I switched back. I would rather run with a bad clutch than risk it all with no cooling fans. A...

Try to decide on a tow rig

Almost any rig will work in the flats.. Just don't try it on a 10% grade in the desert...

Try to decide on a tow rig

I agree 100%. I have a 2000 5.3 Tahoe 4x4, and 2003 2500 Yukon XL 6.0. My tow is 8000 lb. of boat, trailer, and gear. The Tahoe can handle this on the flats and minor grades, but anything like the I-15 East Cajon pass, the I-5 South from Grapevine, or the grade to Desert Center from Palm...

2003 Suburban with a ton of miles... CHEAP.

I have 481,000 mile on my 2000 Tahoe 4x4 , same engine, and 320,000 mile on the current transmission. Rebuilt the transfer case with about 400,000 miles on it. I take this rig everywhere. Don't be afraid of the miles, but be prepared for a new tranny if it is slipping now. The price is good...

    Aging 2004 Tahoe dilemma

You are exactly right!! A brand new $65K Tahoe will depreciate more in year than the worst case maintenance issue will cost you. Plus add in the payments, or cost money, and it is slam dunk. Putting in $2000 to fix a $4000 truck is still the best choice by far.

    Aging 2004 Tahoe dilemma

My 2000 Tahoe 4x4 has 465,000 miles on it, I drive it everyday and everywhere. Never have had to replace the rear end. Replaced the original tranny at 160,000, so the current one has over 300,000 miles on it. Original engine, good compression, and does not burn oil. It is the best vehicle I...

Towing MPG (interested in all years, 2000 - 2017)

Judging by the rear end of your rig, the tongue weight is pretty high. One advantage of the 2500. Rougher ride, but higher capacity on rear end.

Towing MPG (interested in all years, 2000 - 2017)

I would buy an 8.1 if it were available. My 6.0 works great, but out here in California we have some steep grades at high elevation where it can be a struggle. One grade from the high desert to Big Bear Lake is 14% at times as you go from 4000 ft to 7000 ft elevation.

Towing MPG (interested in all years, 2000 - 2017)

My boat and trailer load up to about 7000 lbs. Towing with my 2000 5.3 Tahoe (4x4) I get about 8-9 mpg on the flat at 60 - 65 mph. Towing the same with my 2003 6.0 Yukon (2x4) I get about 10-11 mpg on the flat. Just shows you what the right sized motor and tranny will do. The 5.3 is working...

    Just joined

Thought I would join the group to expand my truck horizons. I have a 2000 Tahoe 4x4 with 404,000 miles. Original 5.3 liter engine. Does not burn oil. Replaced tranny 167K, the current one is going strong. I drive this truck everywhere. On and off road. It looks great too. Also have 2003...
